LS Honda race report - Loket‏

Loket
-
Shaun
Simpson scored a shared overall top ten result at the GP of the Czech
Republic in Loket today. Ken De Dycker managed to grab some solid
championship points as well -with a ninth place in the second moto
being his best result- in spite of the neck injury he picked up in
last week’s first moto. In the MX1 World standings De Dycker sits
in eighth while Simpson is currently fourteenth.

Both
Ken De Dycker and Shaun Simpson had decent starts in Saturday’s
qualification heat at Loket. Downpours
during
practice and qualification
had
softened the fast hard-pack
to
create
a challenging and slippery course. Starting in 11th position Shaun
climbed up to 9th to find himself coming under pressure from world
champion Cairoli. However Shaun did a great job of resisting the
Italian lap after lap even when Tony tried to blockpass the LS Honda
rider. It was finally on the last lap that Cairoli found a way
through, thus relegating ‘Braveheart’ to 10th. While De Dycker
was actually in doubt of taking part this weekend he managed to
overcome his stiff neck and sore shoulders to qualify 12th ahead of
Bobryshev and Barragan.

More
rain and permanent grey skies put their mark on Sunday’s
proceedings. Now the track really started to roughen up and
overtaking opportunities became even more rare. The 21.000 strong
crowd witnessed Shaun Simpson powering his CRF450R to a strong start
just outside of the top five. Shaun fended off Strijbos for seventh
position in the opening stages, unfortunately he lost some ground
after that to settle for a consistent pace in tenth position. Team
mate De Dycker got off to a bad start and found it hard to make
headway like he wanted to. From 19th on the opening lap Keeno climbed
up to fifteenth across the finish line, collecting 6 GP points in the
process.

While
the second race was held in dry conditions the mantra ‘get out in
front or struggle all race long’ rung all so true. This time Shaun
Simpson not only had a decent start inside the top ten, he also
demonstrated a good rhythm for almost half of the race. A brief crash
in the eleventh lap prevented his second top ten finish of the day.
Ken De Dycker had a better start in the second moto and a string of
fast laps pushed the leader in the Belgian Champioenship up from 13th
to 9th behind countryman Strijbos.

Shaun
Simpson:
“It
has been a tough weekend and I haven’t really gelled with the
track. I was a bit off the pace yesterday. The first moto was not too
bad actually and I was pleased with tenth, but I struggled a little
with grip. So I used a different tyre for the second moto. In the
second race my speed was good for the first fifteen minutes, but then
I had a little slip and Ken and Barragan went past. I was able to
pick it up near the end to fend off Frossard. Overall it was a decent
weekend with my third best result of the year with last week being my
best. I can’t wait to get back to the UK for my home GP now.”

Ken
De Dycker:

“This is not my favourite track just because it is so fast. If you
start well then you can run with the front guys, if not then it’s
hard all the way. Considering that I was stuck on the sofa all week
this was not too bad. We will make another check on my neck again
tomorrow, but I think it is nothing serious. I had twisted the bones
and they were trapping some veins and nerves that affected my
shoulder.”
