LS Honda Racing preview GP of Great Britain‏

Lier

Shaun
Simpson will be LS Honda Racing’s sole representative this weekend
for the British Grand Prix, the 13th round of the FIM MX1 World
Championship. The Matterly Basin track is located in Winchester,
about 90 km south-west of London. This flowing and natural track,
designed by Johnny Douglas Hamilton, received rave reviews from
riders and fans five years ago when both the Motocross of Nations and
the British GP took place at this breath taking facility.

With
plenty of work carried out to prepare the track and paddock for what
is set to be one of the most exciting races of the season most people
are whetting their lips in anticipation. However Ken De Dycker, who
will be absent from racing, is biting his lips in frustration. “I
always enjoy racing in the UK because there’s always a great
atmosphere. But Matterly Basin is even more special because it truly
is a great track. It’s set in a huge bowl and when you first come
there it’s hard to grasp the dimensions of the track and the
location. I finished second to Stefan Everts in one moto and tied
for third with Josh Coppins in 2006 so I’d liked to have another
go! Unfortunately it won’t be this year. There’s not a lot I can
do for the moment, I just have to rest to let my neck injury heal. I
can’t even sit in the garden to get a tan because the summer
weather in Belgium is far too sketchy,” jokes the gentle
giant.

While Shaun Simpson took command of the Belgian
Motocross Championship on Monday, the MX1 rookie hurt his index
finger and was not pleased with his performance. For Simpson, who is
currently 14
th
in the Championship, Matterly Basin will be his first home Grand
Prix on the CRF 450R. In 2008 the LS Honda rider finished 4
th
at his home GP in Mallory Park.

Shaun
Simpson:
“The
jumps will be a little but different compared to last time, but from
what I heard the layout will be pretty much identical. I think it
will be a good atmosphere, the track is nice to look at and the
British crowd is surely one of the best! For me it will be very fun.
I guess everyone looks most forward to their home Grand Prix and
that’s the same for me. There’s extra stress with all the fans
there and that makes for the best racing. Whether I will like to race
there we will find out because this year I have arrived at places
that I expected to like and turned out differently! But I think I
should be okay in Mattery Basin ”
