BEND, Ore. (May 29, 2008)---The Women’s Motocross Association (WMA) announced that Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. (KMC) has renewed its position as the presenting sponsor of the AMA/WMA Women’s National Motocross Championship series for 2008. The six-race championship events get underway beginning this weekend (May 31 and June 1) at the famous Hangtown Classic course near Sacramento, Calif.
This sponsorship represents the third consecutive season that the Irvine, Calif.-based motorcycle marketer has been the presenting sponsor. The company will also be supporting several WMA professional racers as they pursue the 2008 championship title. Among the riders receiving KMC support are Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green’s Elizabeth Bash (#33), Meika Cornelius (#905), and Tatum Silk (#224).
Jan Plessner, KMC’s public relations manager, said, “Kawasaki has been a longtime supporter of women in motorcycling, and we are committed to seeing those who have the talent to race professionally are given the opportunity to achieve their goals.”
“And since a growing number of our customers are women who love all types of off-road riding, the WMA series is a great way to keep up with the best of the best. It’s so inspirational too,” said Plessner.
The AMA Hangtown Classic event this weekend—which has been a stalwart on the men’s circuit for decades—will feature a WMA moto on the prime Sunday schedule.
SPEED Channel will produce a television highlights package featuring WMA Pro Racing that will be shown as part of its motocross coverage. The initial feature will be included in Speed’s Motocross Lites show, June 15, at 5:00 p.m. EDT.
Additional support for the 2008 WMA Championship series is provided by Honda Riders Club of America, Dunlop Tires, Alpinestars, the Original Pink Box, Thor MX Gear, Drill Tech Drilling and Shoring, Team Powermadd, Polisport, and ZLT Racing.
