KTM teams out in force at Phillip Island’s Australian GP‏

Victoria’s Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit will come alive this weekend as the Australian Supercross Championships continue alongside the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix on 26-28 October.

The JDR/KTM Factory Racing team will battle for supremacy at the scenic ocean-side venue, with supercross making its debut appearance alongside the world’s top road racers in the MotoGP World Championship series.

After picking up fifth position at Dubbo’s season opener a fortnight ago, JDR/KTM’s former national champion Ryan Marmont is excited to continue his SX-Lites assault at Phillip Island in a unique opportunity to compete ahead of anticipated record crowds.

“There’s a great atmosphere at Phillip Island this weekend and no doubt one of the biggest races this season for us,” Wollongong-based Marmont explained. “In saying that, I still have the same game plan to be quicker straight off the mark and I’ve been working hard since Dubbo a fortnight ago.

“The track looks good, there’s a lot of hype and the fans from MotoGP seem excited to see us here. Come race day tomorrow I think it will be really exciting for everybody down here.”

Further KTM hopefuls to keep an eye on this weekend include Jacob Wright, fresh from a ninth place SX-Open finish on debut at Dubbo, and Under 19s title contender Kale Makeham, who scored second in the season’s opening outing.

The SX-Open and SX-Lites categories will take place on Saturday, 27 October, before the Under 19s and Junior classes wrap up proceedings on Sunday, 28 October, at the Lukey Heights supercross precinct.

Australian KTM fans will also have the opportunity to see 18-year-old South Australian Arthur Sissis make his home Moto3 World Championship debut with the world champion Red Bull KTM Ajo team. Sissis’ teammate Sandro Cortese was crowned champion in Malaysia last weekend.

This year’s Australian Supercross Championships will span four rounds, contested throughout October and November. Visit www.australiansupercross.com.au for further information on this season’s events.
