KTM’s Reekie perfect at Australian Supermoto opener in Queensland

KTM Racing’s
Angus Reekie has dominated the opening round of the Australian Supermoto
Championship at Queensland Raceway last weekend on 3-5 June.

The
multiple-time national champion enjoyed a clean-sweep of the four combined
S1 and S2 category races contested across the weekend, a perfect weekend in
his return to the sport for the season.

Reekie has this year
been campaigning a KTM RC8 R in the Pro-Thunder and Formula Oz classes of
the Australian Formula Xtreme Championship, but enjoyed his return to his
Supermoto roots last weekend with a victory aboard his SMR 450.

“It was good to get back on the Supermoto bike, the first time that
I’ve ridden that for about a year,” 24-year-old Reekie said.
“I felt right back at home on it straight away, and riding the RC8
lately has helped me a lot – just sliding the bike on acceleration
more and not putting my legs out as much.

“Racing in front
of the Australian Superbike Championship teams and crowd is a positive
thing for the sport. The ASBK event is a great event to support and
it’s really good that the organisers of that series are supporting
Supermoto as well. Everybody seemed to really enjoy it and it was a really
good atmosphere all weekend.”

The two-round Australian
Supermoto Championship will continue at Phillip Island in Victoria on
November 18-20, with Reekie now in the box seat to claim a record seventh
national title.

Reekie is supported by KTM Australia, PC
Motorcycle Engineering, Motorex, Monza Imports and Dunlop Tyres.
