KTM MX2: First Career GP Win for KTM's Jeremy van Horebeek

Jeremy van Horebeek of the KTM Factory Junior Team stole a last minute MX2 GP victory win when he slipped past KTM factory rider Rui Goncalves in the closing seconds of the second moto to take third place, enough to elevate him to the top of the podium.
Goncalves, winner in the last two GPs was nevertheless happy with second place and with Anthony Boissiere of HDI KTM France returning from injury to ride to an impressive second moto victory and third overall it was a clean sweep of the podium for KTM.

Van Horebeek taken by surprise at win
"This was a real surprise for me," Jeremy said, not realising he had actually won until he was back in the pits. "I was already feeling well and strong on Saturday and I knew I was very fast. I was so fast in the last five minutes of the second moto that I didn't even think about winning. "Now I feel good and very fit and although I hope to stay in the top and pick up lots of points, I won't be putting any pressure on myself." Jeremy said he had also asked KTM to give him some more power in the bottom range and was happy that this seemed to make a difference. "I want to thank the team for that," he said.

Rui Goncalves continues his impressive results
Rui, the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing's factory rider had taken the first moto with an impressive ride and led for the first half of the second race, looking confident of celebrating his twenty fourth birthday with a hat trick of victories. "But still the best birthday present I could give myself is being on the podium," he said. "I don't aim to always win, but I do try to get as many points as possible." Rui also struck his head rather heavily in a crash in the second moto and although he tried to save as many points as possible he did not want to take unnecessary risks because he was experiencing some dizziness. He also praised the KTM teamwork and said he benefited from the advice that tam boss and multi world champion Stefan Everts was able to give him. His second overall still keeps his championship aspirations alive and in fourth place he is just 17 points shy of the front runner Marvin Musquin with ample opportunity to narrow the gap.

Boissiere back from early season injury and feeling strong
Anthony Boissiere's return to dominance was great for the French rider who suffered injuries in Faenza and again in Valkenswaard. "I had a good start in the first race and I could overtake quite a few riders," the HDI KTM France rider said. "Then I took the lead in the second race and I was able to hang onto it until the end. This is a result that has made me feel very strong. I won my last moto in 2005 but there's a big difference between the Anthony Boissiere of 2005 and what I am today."

KTM's MX2 riders drew special praise from Everts for their clean sweep of the podium. It was a tough day and riders struggled with high summer temperatures and a track that got rougher and dried out as the mercury climbed well into the mid 30 degrees Celsius. Conditions on Sunday were in stark contrast to the mud bath races here at Bellpuig in 2008.
