KTM Builds For The Future in Motocross Sport!

KTM, the world leader in the manufacture of sports offroad motorcycles affirms its full engagement in the Motocross World Championship going into the start of the 2009 racing season.
Under the leadership of KTM Offroad Sports Director Pit Beirer and Team Director Stefan Everts, the Red Bull KTM Factory Team achieves important development work for the entire range of KTM's motocross series models. Parallel to the racing and test programs with the current and very successful MX generation, the factory team also continuously works on constant improvement together with the Development Centre at the company headquarters in Mattighofen, Austria. As well as testing special experimental programs with various engines and fuel injection configurations, they also concentrate on the future development of chassis and suspension components. These tests include prototypes with various linkage systems.

"The extremely tough competition in motocross sport demands constant future development. This also involves periodically analysing and examining existing solutions and comparing them with alternative solutions, activities that also includes the unique KTM PDS system. The overall evaluation of all the characteristics and the results of all the tests on the rear wheel suspension up to this point in time has shown a clear preference for the PDS system, which will therefore continue to be used by the factory team. Regardless of this concentrated development work, the current successful MX1 and MX2 machines will continue to be used in the present format and the KTM MX Model Range for 2010 is also based on the current winning concept of the PDS system," says KTM Motorsports Boss Winfried Kerschhaggl, commenting on the present development strategy.

"Naturally we also carry out ongoing tests of other engine and chassis technology options in motorsport," added KTM Offroad Director Pit Beirer concerning the decision to continue to use the unique chassis system. "For the coming season it is surely the best option for us to be on the start with the system that proved so successful for us especially during the course of last season. We were able to make so much progress with the chassis settings and this has allowed us to now have motorcycles capable of winning in all of the world championship classes. We would definitely not do ourselves any favours if we made any changes to this successful concept," Beirer added.

After the triumphant rehearsal for the 2009 motocross season at the Starcross in Mantova, Italy, whereby KTM riders took five of the six possible podium places, the "Ready to Race" factory team under the leadership of Stefan Everts goes into the start of world championship season in the best possible way. When the season commences at Faenza, Italy on March 29, 2009, the Red Bull KTM Factory Team will be there with riders of the calibre of Max Nagl and Jonathan Barragan (MX1) and Rui Goncalves and Shaun Simpson (MX2). KTM is also represented in the MX2 class with the Junior Team under the leadership of Jacky Martens where riders Joel Roelants, Jeremy van Horebeek and Valentin Teillet are all onboard the current world championship motorcycle.
