AURORA, Ill. (Feb. 25, 2008) – With the overall championship on the line in the Toyota AMA Arenacross Series this Friday and Saturday at the Denver Coliseum (Feb. 29 & March 1), Wisconsin’s Chad Johnson (Bad Boy/TUF/Honda) has the pressure of winning his second championship sitting on his shoulders.

Leading the Toyota AMA Arenacross Series thus far is Johnson. Hot on Johnson’s heels are Monster/Babbitt’s/Kawasaki teammates Kelly Smith (Michigan) and Brock Sellards (Ohio). This past weekend the Toyota AMA Arenacross Series split with half the field racing in Sacramento, Calif., and the other half battling in Greensboro, N.C.

Coming out on top was Kelly Smith, who won the Sacramento round. However, with Chad Johnson finishing 2nd (to Teddy Maier) at Greensboro, Smith was only able to gain three points on Johnson. As it stands, Johnson leads Smith by 30 points (388-358) with two rounds – featuring four 25-point main events - remaining (Denver & Green Bay, Wis.).

“Chad’s in the driver’s seat for sure,” said Toyota AMA Arenacross Series announcer Tim Cotter. “He’s got a race to give.”

So if disaster would strike, and Chad Johnson would fail to qualify for – or crash out of – a main event, he’d only have a five-point lead on Kelly Smith, given the fact Smith was able to win that main event.

“It’s not over yet,” said Live Nation’s Robert Hansen. “Denver’s going to be very interesting – there’s no telling what might happen.”
