SAINT JEAN D’ANGELY (France), 18 September 2011 – For second time in three years, Jeffrey Herlings received the Ricky Carmichael Award for being the youngest best-classified rider in the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations. The Dutch talent finished third in the Open class, behind Villopoto and Paulin, after finishing 2-9 in today’s heats. After being the runner up of the FIM MX2 World Championship, Herlings came to France to represent his country and also to obtain a good performance and prove his talent on the hard pack. Herlings is known as the “king of the sand”, as he is a difficult one to beat on such surface, but in the last part of the season, he has improved a lot his riding on hard pack and he has always finished among the top three. This weekend Herlings represented the Netherlands in the Open class riding the 350cc. In the second heat he missed the holeshot, but he managed to take the lead already in the opening lap, but the extra-motivated Paulin overtook Herlings already in lap five. The Dutch finished second ahead of Villopoto and Roczen. In the last heat, Herlings rode together with the MX1 riders and this time he could not finish among the top places of the race. The Dutch started from the outside and he was 14th in the opening lap, and although he moved up four positions, he then dropped down to tenth place and ended ninth behind Paulin.
