Jeff Ward Racing Lake Elsinore Round 12 Race Report

At the twelfth and final round of the 2012 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship at Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park DNA Energy Drink / Jeff Ward Racing rider Josh Grant scored a 35-6 to finish 11th overall leading the charge for the JWR Kawasaki team during the Lake Elsinore National on Saturday. His teammate Kyle Chisholm finished 15th overall after scoring a 28-8 Leading up to the two 450 class Motos, Grant finished the first qualifying practice 12th fastest with a lap time of 2:45.130 with his teammate Chisholm finishing 18th fastest with a lap time of 2:46.883. In the final qualifying session, both riders shaved some time off their first practice speeds with Grant finishing third fastest with a lap time of 2:40.712 to put him fourth fastest overall. Chisholm finished the final practice 12th with a lap time of 2:44.054 putting him 14th fastest overall.

In the first 450 Moto, Grant was on his way to a good start but unfortunately got collected in a turn one crash. After collecting himself he had to make a brief stop in the mechanics area and returned to the track in the 36th position. On lap 5 things worsened for Grant as he suffered a hole in his radiator forcing him to retire from the race leaving him to finish 35th. Chisholm got out to a solid top-10 start but on lap 3 David Millsaps landed on him sending them both to the ground causing Chisholm to unfortunately suffer a back injury that would put him out of the race by lap 9. He would finish 28th. In the second 450 Moto, both Grant and Chisholm rebounded strong from their unfortunate DNF’s in the first 450 Moto to ride to solid top-10 finishes with Grant finishing sixth and Chisholm finishing eighth.

Grant’s 11th place overall finish in the season ending race puts him finishing sixth in the championship standings with 277 points. Chisholm’s 15th place overall finish puts him finishing eighth in the championship standings with 211 points.

One final race remains in 2012 for the DNA Energy Drink / Jeff Ward Racing Kawasaki team which is that of the Montser Energy Cup in Las Vegas on October 20th.
