Jeff Gibson Makes Move Into the Top 20

Riverside, CA (January 23, 2008) – Cernics Kawasaki rider Jeff Gibson battled his way to a 16th place finish at round three of Monster Energy Supercross, an FIM Championship in front of a sold-out crowd of 45,050 spectators.  Gibson’s best finish of the season moves him back into the top twenty after finishing 11th overall last year.

Gibson qualified for the main event directly from his heat race while teammate Kyle Mace had to go to the last chance qualifier.  Unfortunately for Mace, he did not get a good start and had to battle from the back of the pack but failed to qualify.  Mace was a last minute replacement for Dusty Klatt one week before the season started and continues to improve each week.

The main event started poorly for Gibson with poor gate choice and he came out of turn one in second to last place.  It was unusual to see Gibson with a poor start since he had been getting great starts through the first couple rounds.  Despite the poor track position he continued to fight through the race and secured his 16th place position.

“Those riders starting on the inside this week definitely had an advantage,” explained Gibson.  “Those of us lined up on the outside were at a disadvantage but that’s what happens when you don’t qualify like you’re supposed to.  It took a few laps to get my rhythm on the track but I finally started riding consistently around lap three.  I just kept my head down and was able to move past a few riders by the checkered flag”.

The Cernics Kawasaki Racing Team will travel to AT&T Park in San Francisco, CA next week for round four of the Monster Energy Supercross, an FIM Championship on January 26, 2008.
