Jason Lawrence Is Back!

Boost/ampm/Monster/Troy-JLaw Racing team owner podiums at the Washougal MX National

Lawrence puts two top-ten motos together, including a podium 3rd place in the second moto, to take 3rd o/a - Wey & Anstie also crank!

CARLSBAD, Calif., (July 28, 2009) – Jason Lawrence (Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/Troy-JLaw Racing) has everyone talking today – for all the right reasons – as the phenomenally fast former SX Lites champ wicked it up in the consistency department and banged out two good motos, the better of the two - a 3rd place run in the second moto - delivering him to the overall podium (3rd) at the Washougal, Wash., round of the 2009 Lucas Oil AMA MX Nationals.

“This was our best day this summer, by far, as a team,” said Lawrence of he and teammates’ Nick Wey’s 7th place 450 class finish at Max Anstie’s 9th place 250 class finish. “Our sponsors are pumped and so are we. But now we’ve gotta get back after it, train hard this next week off, and hit the East Coast on fire. My goal is to close out the season with podium finishes at all four of the remaining races.”

Lawrence opened the morning practice session with a somewhat conservative 2:14.371 – putting him in 6th place, about a second behind Josh Grant. In the second practice Lawrence again fell back behind the leaders, this time by nearly two seconds back of Chad Reed and Andrew Short.

With extreme Pacific Northwest heat and humidity, Lawrence was wise to keep some in the tank – especially considering he hadn’t put two full motos together in some time. A bit of a flinch during the start of the first moto had him back in a crowd, barely inside the top 15. But this was followed by a methodic charge that had him as high as 8th by the fifth lap. For the rest of the race he and Justin Brayton would be close, with Lawrence evetually holding off factory Honda rider and ’09 450 outdoor round winner, Ivan Tedesco, for 10th.

“I pretty much knew I had to go off in the second moto to have any sort of shot at the podium,” said Lawrence. “I was thinking to myself ‘top five would be cool,’ but when I pulled that start (2nd place after the first lap) it was on and (I) was stopping short of nothing but the podium in the second moto.”

Lawrence got that and, with some jagged scoring by the other riders, wound up with a 3rd place overall – to which he said “I’ll take it.”

Close behind Lawrence in speed and scoring in the second moto was Wey, who again put the Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/Troy-JLaw Racing team well into the premier class’ top ten with a 6th place finish in the second moto and 7th place overall.

“I’m pumped for Jason – he’s worked hard and deserves that podium,” said Wey. “Our team’s heading into Unadilla with a lot of confidence, and that’s going to help all three of us run well.”

Scoring his first two-moto top ten day, and top ten overall, was Anstie. The rookie racer from the UK would to 9th/9th for 9th overall in the 250 class. “Everyone on the team was pretty stoked,” said Anstie. “We need to focus during this week off so we can come back just as strong at Unadilla.”

After eight of 12 Lucas Oil AMA MX Nationals rounds Wey has moved into 9th place in the overall 450 class standings and less than ten points out of the top seven. Anstie is in the top 15 (15th) with 107 points.

Next up for the Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/Troy-JLaw Racing team is this the Aug. 15th Unadilla MX National in New Berlin, N.Y.
