Marmont
Impresses with Top Ten Finish
JDR/J-Star/KTM
rider Ryan Marmont impressed the crowd with another top ten finish at
the fifth round of the AMA West Supercross Lites Series in Anaheim,
CA.
The
Australian rider has made it a habit of finishing inside the top ten
this season and managed to pull it off once more with a 9th
place finish at the final Anaheim round.
Marmont
had dismal practice times near the bottom twenty but managed to turn
it up when it came to racing. “I have always struggled with timed
qualifying but when I get to a race I can put it together and get the
results I need,” remarked Marmont. His statement proved correct
when Marmont lined up for his heat race and pulled a top three start.
Marmont rode aggressive in his heat fighting for every position. He
held his place until the last two laps when he made a bobble after a
rhythm section and allowed two riders to pass. He crossed the
checkers in 5th
for a decent gate pick in the main event.
In the
main event, Marmont garnered a 10th
place start and held strong. He remained consistent throughout the 15
lap main event, never giving away positions. “It was a rather
uneventful main event for me. I just rode a smooth race and
capitalized on a few riders mistakes,” stated Marmont. He was able
to make a move up to 9th
after the halfway mark and remained in that position through the
finish. His result tonight helped move him up two positions in the
series points. After five rounds Marmont now sites 11th
overall in the series point standings.
Joining
Marmont under the JDR/J-Star/KTM tent where SX riders Tye Simmonds
and Dan Reardon aboard their KTM 350 SX-F race machines. Simmonds was
able to qualify directly from his heat with an 8th
place result to claim a gate spot on his second career SX main event.
Reardon was less fortunate and struggled in his heat and in the LCQ
with bad starts that kept him out of the running.
In the
main event, Simmonds suffered from a poor start and had to work his
way up from near last. “I had worked my way up to about 15th
before I made a couple mistakes that set me back a few positions.
Every time I made some ground I would make another mistake and lose
the position I had just gained. I made a couple poor decisions on the
track today that set me back. I’m happy to be in the main event but
I was really hoping to put together a better overall result,”
mentioned Simmonds after the race. Simmonds eventually finished the
race in 18th
place.
With
five rounds down, Simmonds and Reardon will head to Houston for the
sixth round of the AMA Supercross Series while Marmont will return to
Australia to begin preparing for the Australian Motocross
Championship.
