Huffman Wins South Carolina EnduroCross

Dietrich Holds Slim Points Lead at Series Halfway Mark

FLORENCE, SC. (September 13, 2008) Team Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Damon Huffman took his first ever AMA/Maxxis EnduroCross main event win in Florence South Carolina on Saturday evening. He made an aggressive pass on Canadian off-road standout Bobby Prochnau near the end of the first lap and then managed to do something very uncommon in EnduroCross and ride a mistake free race all the way to the finish. Prochnau held onto second position on his KTM and International Six Days Enduro top American, Ricky Dietrich rode through the pack after a first lap crash to take the final podium position.

Florence marked the first visit to the east coast for EnduroCross and a large crowd witnessed an action packed night of racing. Former 125 Motocross Champion, Mike Brown who was recently signed by KTM to compete in off-road events qualified for the main event via a second place finish in his heat race after a three way battle with Dietrich and Prochnau. Brown finished 9th in the main after several crashes. The Joe Gibbs Racing team made the short drive from Charlotte North Carolina to give Josh Summey a shot at EnduroCross glory but he was unable to qualify for the main event. He was joined on the sidelines by Enduro legend Mike Lafferty who just missed the main event by finishing second to Ty Davis in the Last Chance Qualifier.

At the halfway point in the series, Dietrich leads Huffman by a single point and Colton Haaker, the converted trials rider sits in third after finishing forth in Florence .

The AMA/Maxxis EnduroCross presented by Lucas Oil will visit the Mile High city of Denver , Colorado on September 27th. KTM’s Taddy Blazusiak is expected to return to the series and try to play the spoiler now that injuries have forced him to miss the last two rounds after winning the Vegas opener. Make sure you make plans to see it in person or even compete in one of the four support classes, which race their main events during the night program in front of the packed arena.

EnduroCross tracks incorporate various elements of Off-Road motorcycle racing into a supercross-style setting, including rocks, boulders, logs, sand, mud, a water-hole… and even a few special obstacles like giant tires!
