Honda unveils 2013 CRF 450R at Sweden Grand Prix

Honda Motor Europe was proud to unveil the exciting new 2013 CRF 450R to the media at the Grand Prix of Sweden in Uddevalla during round nine of the MX1 World Championship.

The off-road media were invited to join Honda staff and Honda World Motocross riders Evgeny Bobryshev and Rui Gonçalves, who rode the bike in May in California, to see the new off-road model in the flesh a number of weeks since its initial launch.

The bike, which will join the CRF 250L, another new model in Honda’s range, on display at the Honda World Motocross team awning during Sunday’s Grand Prix, received a great initial reaction with many looking forward to getting the opportunity to test the bike on-track when it arrives for sale in Europe later in the year.

The much-anticipated 2013 CRF 450R uses the sixth generation aluminum twin-beam frame, which has been built from the ground up retaining a focus on mass centralisation, along with a re-worked 449cc single-cylinder engine. The chassis is completed with KYB air-sprung front forks that join a compact KYB rear shock and Honda’s Pro-Link system with a brand new swing arm, which work together for better handling and a lighter feel. Overall, the bike’s optimized ergonomics offer smoother rider transition and better turning with increased punch out of corners as the next generation in Honda’s CRF range.

“It’s been great to be able to unveil the 2013 CRF 450R here in Sweden. The bike looks great and it’s been well received by everyone who has seen it so far,”said Honda Motor Europe Off-Road Manager, Roger Harvey.

“Bobby and Rui rode the bike in America a few weeks ago, which means they have a first hand experience of what it’s like on the track. Both riders were suitably impressed with how nimble the new machine is, and how comfortable it is with Rui comparing its ride-ability to that of a 125, yet with the power of a 450. Bobby was mainly impressed with the turning; particularly in the tight corners where he struggles the most with his tall stature and for us it’s a proud moment to be able to launch this machine, as the development has come from the use of information from the Honda World Motocross team as well as our American colleagues and the All-Japan squad. We’d like to thank everyone who came to the unveiling this evening.”
