Hibbert Wins Fifth Straight Snowmobile SnoCross Gold in Winter X Games 15

 

Tucker Hibbert continued his dominance in Snowmobile SnoCross Sunday
afternoon, easily grabbing his fifth-straight Winter X Games gold in
the event.

 

“It feels amazing, awesome race,” said an excited Tucker.  “Sorry it
was a little boring, but I will take it any way that I can.  The secret
is getting a good start - that is where you win. I worked really hard
and it paid off.” 

 

It appeared as though Hibbert would have to fight from behind at the
start of the race, but event officials deemed that Ross Martin had
jumped the starting gun and black flagged him.  Hibbert passed him and
never looked back.

 

Despite the penalty, Martin fought his way back and grabbed the silver medal.

 

“I felt really good out there,” said Martin.  “My team got the sled
really ripping today.  I jumped the start a little early, but I rode my
best and kept charging.  I am happy to have the silver medal.”

 

The bronze medal went to Robbie Malinoski, who said patience was his key today.

 

“That start was crazy fun and from there on out it was wide open,”
added Malinoski.  “I knew a few guys would get out early but I just
tried to stay calm.  I was ripping out there and found myself in
third.” 

 

With its combination of high-flying aerial displays and technical
racing, SnoCross is today’s most popular form of snowmobile racing for
athletes and spectators alike.  Racers battle on a closed course track
lined with rollers, jumps and bermed corners.

Winter X Games will celebrate its 15^th anniversary in Aspen/Snowmass, Colo. January 27-30, 2011, with live coverage on ESPN and ESPN2. This will mark the 10^th
consecutive year Winter X Games will be held in Aspen and will feature
new events, more than 200 athletes and primetime coverage on ESPN on
Sun., Jan.30. In addition to 24 hours of live programming on ESPN,
Winter X Games 15 will be offered for the first time on ESPN 3D, as
