Great Weekend for Team WMR KTM Off-Road

Masontown, WV. (May 27, 2012) - What a great weekend for team WMR KTM/Nihilo Concepts Off-Road! Rory Mead once again surprised everyone jumping out to an early lead getting by fellow kiwi Paul Whibley after the first few turns. Rory threw down an amazing pace gapping the field by over 30 seconds on the first lap until he went down hard on one of West Virginia's down hills. His crash was so hard that it completely ripped half the shroud off of his KTM 300XC 2 Stroke, destroyed his throttle housing and damaged his rear brakes. But the determined kiwi continued to push and kept his lead until he was forced to pit for fuel and some minor fixes to the bike to allow him to continue. Even with those minor fixes Rory was still forced to race with that rotating throttle housing and minimal rear brakes! He was able to keep a safe distance behind him to land the last spot on the podium in 3rd. This allowed the team WMR rider to creep up in the championship standings, with only a 3 point gap to 3rd.

Another outstanding ride came from Team WMR KTM/Nihilo Concepts Off-Road rider Chris Douglas who worked his way from the back of the pack in his Open A class all the way to the lead. At the checkers he ended up with a 5 and a half minute lead over 2nd place. He also received 16th overall tying him for 4th in the championship standings in his class.

"Track was really rocky, reminded me a lot about Snowshoe. I actually crashed in the second turn and was dead last. I was able to work my way up to the lead by the end of the first lap. I just tried to ride really smooth and make zero mistakes and it worked!" Said Douglas.

Other team WMR riders Steven Squire ended up with 11th in the XC1 class and Ethan Jaudas finished 10th in 250 A.
