Ferris ready for championship showdown after first Pro Open win at Moree

The 2010 Rockstar MX Nationals Pro
Open Championship will come down to the wire this weekend with rounds 7 and
8 to be held at Coolum on QLD’s Sunshine Coast.

20 year old Privateer Honda rider
Dean Ferris is still buzzing after capturing his first Pro Open class moto
win and overall podium at Rnd 7 of the 2010 Rockstar MX Nationals held at
Moree last Sunday. Ferris was in impeccable form throughout the day
qualifying 2nd behind factory Kawasaki pilot Billy Mackenzie but
in front of his main championship factory rivals Marmont, Simmonds and
Suzuki’s Cody Cooper.

Ferris fought hard in the first
moto overtaking Kawasaki’s Billy Mackenzie for second place on the
5th lap and then shadowed Cody Cooper but couldn’t quite make a pass.
The second moto saw Ferris bolt out of the gate and control the race from
the front, riding with a maturity far beyond his age to claim his first pro
open moto victory. Dean’s consistent 3rd place finishes in
the final 2 motos were enough to secure 2nd overall for the day,
just 3 points shy of championship leader and round winner Jay Marmont. More
importantly, Dean has leap-frogged 3 positions to 2nd place
overall and is only 40 points off Marmont with 150 points  still up
for grabs at the final double header this weekend at Coolum.

“I am really happy at the
moment. We have been working really hard over the past 2 weeks maintaining
my fitness and doing a lot of testing. With some knowledge that I gained
while I was in Germany we have found a great setting with the suspension
that allowed me to push hard for the win in Moree. It’s my best
result in a national, and has given me a great amount of confidence going
into the final 2 rounds this weekend at Coolum which is a favorite track
for me. Hats off to Jay Marmont at Moree, he rode great and just had a bit
too much speed for us on the day, but we will be working hard for some more
moto victories this weekend.

In what has been a remarkable debut
season in the premier Pro Open class, Ferris has amazed his competitors and
team managers alike with his smooth, fast and consistent results, and is
still on track to be the 1st privateer since the late great
Andrew “Sharky” McFarlane to take out the premier class
title.

“It has been an incredible
year so far. Although I am a privateer, with the support I receive from my
crew and family I feel factory!! A big thanks to Corey Glock my
mechanic, Glen Bell, Jon Hafey, Tony Hinton, Pip Harrrison and all the
people at Honda MPE, McLeod Accessories, Link Int, Pirelli tyres and my
family for believing in me when others wouldn’t! This weekend I can
hopefully give them the best thank you of all with a great
result.
