FIM Women's Motocross World Championship in Benelux - Latest Info

LIEROP (THE NETHERLANDS), 5 September 2008 – The FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship will come to an exciting end this weekend when current series leader Livia Lancelot will try to become the first ever Women’s Motocross World Championship by coming out on top of the battle with runner up Steffi Laier.

Maria Franke and Larissa Papenmeier round off the top four.

With two time World Cup winner Katherine Prumm sitting out for an injury, the battle for the Women’s World Championship Title is likely to remain in between current series leader Livia Lancelot of GPKR and KTM Germany’s Steffi Laier.

As Lancelot has been riding a solid season Laier only entered at round two because of a shoulder injury. Though she has won five of the six heats she entered so far and put together an impressive recovery to the second place.

Sitting in third and being level in points with Laier is Kawasaki Elf Pfeil’s Maria Franke as German compatriot Larissa Papenmeier of Suzuki Inotec is fourth.

Katherine Prumm, who will not race this weekend, is fifth ahead of Swedish Elin Mann.

Elien de Winter and Marianne Veenstra follow in seventh and eighth while American talent Ashley Fiolek, who was recently nominated for the Sportswoman of the Year Award, is ninth.

Marielle de Mol rounds off the top ten.

Right before the proceedings will start the Women’s Motocross World Championship riders together with the series’ manager Stefy Baù gathered at the Red Bull Energy Station as the Austrian sponsor gave them a friendly welcome and wished them the best of luck for this final round.

The event unveiled to be an appealing media opportunity for the international press and TV’s.

DE HERSELSE BOSSEN AND LIEROP

After Valkenswaard and Lommel, the De Herselse Bossen track is another sandy venue in the World Motocross calendar. The venue hosted its first Grand Prix back in 1996 (500cc class) and it is more than a classical Dutch sandy course; the start straight is always covered in grass while there is a part of the track going into a forest. The whole layout and the ground are very demanding as a good physical challenge will add to the mounting mental pressure of the final round of the series. Among last year’s winners are Kevin Strijbos (MX1), Antonio Cairoli (MX2) and Katherine Prumm (Women).

Lierop is one of four community villages that form the municipality of Someren, a sort of natural paradise with its 1.615 hectares of woods, natural grounds and plantation landscape on which windmills, chapels and several other monuments are part of the beautiful Dutch scenery. Lierop is a quiet town at 20 kilometres from Eindhoven and 150 kilometres North of lively Amsterdam.
