FUNCHAL (PORTUGAL), 27 May 2009 – Round two of the FIM SuperMoto World Championship will get underway this weekend on the new exciting Mallory Park race track. The event will be held together with the second round of the UEM SuperMoto series and with the Motocross Grand Prix of Great Britain for a thrilling weekend of true motorcycle racing.
Leading the S1 Championship after his maiden GP on TM, Thierry Van Den Bosch is focused on opening up a gap from runner up Hermunen.
In the S2 class the duel Adrien Chareyre-Davide Gozzini continues with the defending Champion now leading the series from the Italian.
In the European series Dall’Era leads the Open class while young gun Kevin Wuerterle tops the S3 class.
S1
Thierry Van Den Bosch’s first season on TM started off in great style with the 747 Motorsport - TM Racing Factory Team’s Superider taking the overall victory at round one in Viterbo and now entering Mallory Park with the red plate. Being already the winningest Superider ever with three World Titles under his belt, VDB is facing a group of strong youngsters in the quest to the impressive tally of four World Crowns.
Husqvarna CH Racing’s Hermunen is currently the closest rival to the Frenchman as he sits in second just two points behind. Hermunen, a wet weather specialist, would be interesting to watch during the Championship’s first outing at Mallory Park.
His team mate completes the top three but he has a score to settle with countryman Van Den Bosch whom he tried his best to pass in a hard fought opening heat at Viterbo. The GP winner looked like having a good feeling with the factory Husqvarna which he lacked in last year’s Championship beginning.
Suffering a gap of 11 points from Chareyre, Rigo Racing Suzuki’s Seel is now fourth in the Championship behind veterans Beltrami and Ravaglia. The duo this year is riding inside the Magic Bike Evolution squad provided with the twin cylinder Aprilia’s.
After having a difficult start to the season at home in Viterbo, Lazzarini will try to make up for it this weekend though a solid group of home representatives headed by the Motosupplies Husqvarna duo Winstanley – Hodgson will be in the chase for the podium too.
Another Superider expected to make a strong recovery this weekend is Spaniard Xavi Rodriguez, this year being onboard the factory Gas Gas.

Taking a dominant win in Viterbo, Husqvarna CH Racing’s Adrien Chareyre established his authority of defending Champion. The young French is on his way to reach compatriot Van Den Bosch’s tally of three World Championship titles as he has already won two consecutively (2007-2008).
Davide Gozzini of 747 Motorsport - TM Racing Factory had just to salvage the maximum amount of points as he struggled to find the proper set up for his works TM machine. The Italian, who battled it out for last year’s title until the final round in Greece, is expected to chase Chareyre for victory this weekend with his big bore 660cc TM being the most powerful machine in the group.
Accadueo Racing’s Luca Minutilli completed Viterbo’s podium at his maiden appearance on the rostrum. The solid Italian is currently 13 points behind Chareyre but just five points ahead of a dangerous Delepine.
The latter was hampered by a first moto crash but the Husqvarna Cross 2R racer will try to make up ground this weekend.
After winning his first Superpole on KTM, KTM Motoracing’s Iddon dropped down to ninth overall at the end of two difficult heats. The Brit will surely enjoy the support of the home fans on his way back to the top five.

UEM
Round two of the UEM SuperMoto European Championship is also to get underway this weekend.
Youngster Kevin Wuerterle wrapped up the overall victory in Viterbo and now holds the leader’s spot in the S3 series. The German is followed by Bulgarian Angel Karanyotov who settled for second despite he dominated the qualifying session. Riding on home soil, British hopeful Lewis Cornish will try and challenge the duo for his maiden win in the series-he debuted only last year in Greinbach, Austria.
In the Open class Dall’Era leads in front of Italian countryman Monticelli. The duo is spread in just two points as the challenge will get hotter this weekend in Great Britain. Third placed Animento leads a compact group of three Superiders who are all level in points-this weekend they will surely swap places in what will be an exciting battle for third including also home Superider Barber.
