Extreme Competitors at 7th Annual Extremity Games

Rochester Hills, MI (May 29, 2012) – 2012 marks another successful year for Extremity Games, which took place on May 26^th (Memorial Day weekend) in Millington, Michigan. Organized by Athletes with Disabilities Network, the motocross event for amputee and paraplegic racers saw athletes travel from across the country to compete for cash and prizes at Baja Acres Motocross Park.

With the support of event partners and sponsorship contributions, the 7^th Annual Extremity Games (eX7) provided adaptive racers (living with limb loss or limb difference) a place where they could compete peer-to-peer, as well as share in experiences that only Extremity Games can provide.

“It was a blast coming out here; to see the other adaptive athletes and what they had to do to overcome their injury, get back on their motorcycles, and do what they love” said adaptive racer Mike Schultz.

Schultz was one of over a dozen amputee and paraplegic racers who climbed aboard their motorcycles and conquered the challenging Baja Acres motocross track. Soaring over jumps as long as 140 feet, and clicking off lap times on pace with Expert-class riders, Schultz was joined by riders like; Jim Wazny, Darius Glover, Nick Pappas, and Nick Mardis (just to name a few). Racers ran 2 motos each in their respective classes (either limb loss or limb difference), as well as a 3^rd “shootout” moto. Winners in each of the 3 classes won $1,000, while 2^nd received $500 and 3^rd $250 in the limb loss and limb difference classes.

In the Limb-Loss class, Schultz stood on the top step of the podium, followed by Jim Wazny in second and Nick Mardis in third. In the Limb-Difference class, Darius Glover took first overall, with Jesse Gildea taking second and John Harris finishing third.

“We are extremely proud of all the racers and their accomplishments” said Extremity Games Executive Director Beth Geno. “They’re not only talented athletes, but exceptional people as well, and they make this event what it is.”
