Division7/Star Racing/Yamaha - Atlanta Supercross

Atlanta, GA - The AMA Supercross Series packed Atlanta’s Georgia Dome with Supercross fans for one of the season’s finest races. Division 7/Star Racing/Yamaha came in and showcased their two East Coast contingents, #41 Matt Lemoine and #159 Darryn Durham. The day started out well for the teammates as Lemoine clocked in at 4th and the rookie Durham set the 14th fastest Pre-qualifying time.

Heat #1, started with Durham rounding the first turn in the front of the field, and by dodging a few wrecks he filed into 6th. By the end of six laps, Durham aggressively made his way up to 3rd and moved on to the main event. Heat #2, Lemoine gated to the inside and got a terrible jump. However, by ducking down to the inside of the first turn, Lemoine managed to knife himself through to 3rd. Continuing forward, Lemoine then took over 2nd and rode on to the checkered flag.

When the Lites Main Event took to the track, it was Lemoine getting the best of starts sitting in 5th, while Durham circulated in 9th. Up front, Lemoine found the pace he needed to maintain early in the race, which put his Yamaha in a sweet spot with the leaders just in range and no pressure from behind. Not finding his race rhythm was Durham who crashed on lap two, leaving him a lap down in the 17th position. Still though the most impressive riding that could be seen was by Matt, lap after lap he consistently ran quick times showing this was no fluke by any means. Lap nine went into the books, Lemoine still secured 5th however on the very next lap he was able to execute a block pass and inherit 3rd by way of the leader stalling his motorcycle. Now in contention, the likeable Texan tried to put in his best form and fight off a train of pursuing competitors. The turning point happened on lap twelve, when one block pass resulted in the loss of three spots, frustrated and off his rhythm Lemoine let another rider slip by due to lap traffic. In the end, our Division 7 pilot finished 8th and was disappointed, but realized he now holds the speed to capture a more exclusive spot in the finishing order come this weekend’s race in Indianapolis, IN.
