The AMA outdoor championships headed to the far east of the country visiting Budds Creek MX Park in Maryland. Division 7/Star Racing/NCY/Yamaha rolled in with high hopes of Broc Tickle #35, Matt Lemoine #52, Jake Moss #82, and Wil Hahn #99 obtaining a placing high up the overall rankings. Track conditions were fast, and the weather stayed optimal which helped see the team charge hard.
Taking top honors of the team and having a rather consistent day was Matt Lemoine. When moto one got underway, Lemoine sat mid pack in 14th. Some quick moves allowed the Yamaha pilot to forge up to 12th, where he fluctuated up and down slightly for most the race. In the closing stages, Lemoine secured 12th as his finishing position and prepared for the second moto. Race number two for Lemoine began with a 20th place start. As the moto progressed, the Texas native rode aggressively, raising his status to 15th halfway in, but a small bobble resulted in a move backwards. Never willing to settle, Lemoine bounced back to capture 14th and take a score of 13th overall.
Next in line on the day would be Tickle after a strong finish to the weekend. An uneventful moto one saw Tickle race on to take a 18th place. Redeeming himself in moto two, after a 23rd place start, Tickle put on a clinic showing the way to charge. Lap by lap, the Division 7 backed rider climbed up the field very convincingly and took a well deserved 10th, which helped him claim 14th overall.
Having a similar finish in his first visit to the facility was Hahn, with a start of 19th; our rookie soldiered through all thirty-five minutes of the race to take 17th. Bettering his day in moto two, Hahn lit the fuse and chased his #35 teammate right till the last lap, taking home 11th, resulting in a 15th overall.
A less than stellar day for Moss was truly unfortunate, racing to a 14th in moto one. Moss suffered from a crash early in moto two, and then proceeded to make a try at coming back. However, just past the halfway mark he called an end to his race while feeling not to safe racing standards. That gave him a score of 32nd for the moto and 20th overall.
