Davy Pootjes clinches European 85 title

Davy Pootjes of the Hannamax KTM Team has clinched the European 85 title at the MX GP Festival in Matterley Basin, Great Britain last weekend. Pootjes won the first moto and after a consistent second moto he came home in second position which was enough to clinch the title.

On the technical circuit in Matterley Basin Davy qualified himself in second position. His first moto was already on Saturday and Davy was looking forward to this moment. When the gate dropped he took a good start and came out of the first corner in second position.  In the beginning of the race he lost some ground on leader Conrad Mewse. Davy stayed calm and tried to follow him as good as possible. After several laps Mewse got a flat rear tyre and had to lower the pace. Davy took over the lead and had a gap of a few seconds over the second and third place riders. In the rest of the moto he controlled the race and won the first moto in front of David Herbreteau and Brian Hsu.

In the second moto he took the holeshot and was leading the field when he came out of the first corner. After several laps he got passed by Conrad Mewse but second position was still good enough to clinch the European title. Davy was riding a consistent race but in the second part of the race the Frenchman David Herbreteau closed the gap to the young Dutchman. Both riders swapped places but Davy took second position back and kept the Frenchman behind him. With still two laps to go the Frenchman lost control over his bike and ran into Davy. Davy stayed on two wheels but the Frenchman crashed and this gave Davy some breathing room. Davy took no unnecessary risks anymore and crossed the finish line in second position.

With a 1-2 in the motos he clinched the European 85cc title. Next weekend Davy will participate in the World Championship 85cc in Sevlievo, Bulgaria.
