DNA Energy/Jeff Ward Racing Budds Creek Race Report

At the fifth round of the 2012 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship at Budds Creek in Mechanicsville, Md., DNA Energy Drink / Jeff Ward Racing rider Josh Grant scored a 10-5 to finish seventh overall in the 450 class leading the charge for his team during the Budds Creek National on Saturday. His teammate Kyle Chisholm finished 11 th overall after scoring a 12-12.

Leading up to the two 450 class Motos, Grant finished his Group A first qualifying practice eighth fastest with a lap time of 2:05.473. Chisholm, who was also in Group A finished his first qualifying practice 11 th fastest with a lap time of 2:06.102. In the final Group A qualifying session, Grant laid down an impressive lap to finish third quickest with a lap time of 2:01.364 to put him third fastest overall. Chisholm ended the final session 10 th quickest with a lap time of 2:02.382 putting him 10 th fastest overall.

Both Grant and Chisholm got out to a top-15 start after the drop of the gates in the first 450 Moto with Grant settling into the 11 th spot and Chisholm settling into the 14 th spot by the time they came around to complete lap 1. On lap nine Grant made his way into the top-10 where he would remain for the remainder of the Moto finishing 10 th . Chisholm took over the 12 th spot by lap eight and would remain there until the finish.

In the second 450 Moto, Grant got out to a top-10 start after the drop of the gates settling into the ninth spot at the completion of lap one. He would go on to pick off positions early in the Moto and by lap 4 had taken over the fifth spot. On lap 10 Grant made a pass for fourth and would remain there until the last lap when Jake Weimer was able to beat him at the line. His teammate Chisholm rode a resilient race after having to rebound from a bad start that left him 25 th at the close of lap one to finish 12 th giving him his second top-15 finish of the day. Grant’s seventh place overall finish moves him up one spot to eighth in the championship standings with 111 points. Chisholm’s 11 th overall moves him to 13 th in the standings with 84 points.

The DNA Energy Drink / Jeff Ward Racing team has the next two weekends off with the schedule resuming at Red Bud in Buchanan, MI. on July 7 for Round 6.
