DC Launches Moto Teamworks Collection To Honor Motocross Athletes

Vista, CA—DC is proud to present its first-ever DC Moto TeamWorks collection, a personality-based footwear collaboration built to honor four of DC’s elite motocross athletes. DC Team Riders Travis Pastrana, Ricky Carmichael, Jeremy McGrath and Nate Adams each worked with DC in the creation of their own customized TeamWorks collection pack that include a pair of shoes, T-shirt and hat. The riders were involved in all aspects of the design process by handpicking the shoe model, patterns, designs, materials, colors and details to suit their individual styles.

“When developing the Moto TeamWorks collection, the main concept was to create something as a celebration to the guys and all their accomplishments,” said Ken Block, DC Co-founder and Chief Brand Officer.  “Ricky, Travis, Jeremy and Nate have had overwhelming influence in the direction of motocross, and have set the standards for all aspects of it today. DC is very proud of all of our athletes, and it is great to be able to give something unique back to them.”

Travis is considered one of the greatest motocross athletes to date. He has single-handedly progressed freestyle motocross by inventing almost every variation of a backflip trick performed today, including the infamous double backflip that earned him the Gold at X Games 12 and recently an ESPY for “Best Male Action Sports Athlete.” As if that weren’t enough, Travis is an amazing rally car driver, taking 1st in the 2006 Rally America National Championship, plus for kicks he enjoys racing cross-country moto and monster trucks. He is the definition of a versatile rider, and It only seemed fitting for Travis choose the Versatile shoe model when creating his collection.

When asked about the design process of the shoe, Travis said “I asked DC to make a shoe that was able to be multifunctional in performance while being a bit flashy, but not overboard.  It needed a sole that allows someone with knees as bad as mine to walk with a bit of comfort but still be able to hold the feel of a motocross pedal.  I have always been a fan of function over fashion, but I feel that this shoe has both. The premise for the color pattern was to stick with my Suzuki moto days but added a bit of the Subaru blue into the mix. I couldn't have asked for a better shoe.” His infamous  #199 is located on the heel of the upper. Travis carried over the blue and yellow color combo for his T-shirt and hat.

Often referred to as the “Greatest Of All Time,” Ricky has captured more career wins, including 15 career Motocross and Supercross titles, than any other rider in moto history. With his final career race at Moto of Nations coming up at the end of September, it was the perfect time to pair up with Ricky for the TeamWorks project.

“When the guys at DC came to me and said they wanted to do a TeamWorks shoe— wow, I couldn't believe it. You know, you just can't imagine ever having something that cool done for ya, then when I saw it I couldn't believe how awesome it actually turned out. Definitely one of the coolest things anyone's ever done for me!” Ricky commented. When designing his pack, Ricky chose the Rifle model for its numerous technical features that are perfect for training in, and because it had the flare of Ricky’s own style.  Ricky’s shoe is offered in a grey and black colorway for a clean, classic look, and Ricky’s legendary #4 is situated on the heel, covered in a TPR overlay that has a striking resemblance to a moto chest protector. Ricky’s #4 was also used in a grey and black, all-over print design used on his T-shirt and hat.

Dubbed the “King of Supercross,” Jeremy ’s influence on the growth of Supercross is undeniable. His seven Supercross Championship titles speak for themselves, and Jeremy brought it to new audiences with his own self-titled race, the Jeremy McGrath Invitational, which commenced in 2006. When creating his TeamWorks shoe, Jeremy had motocross at the forefront of his creative process. Jeremy chose the Miner boot model because it was perfect for taking laps around the track on his mini bike.

“I am really excited about my new TeamWorks high top, and have been searching for something cool and protective to ride in. Well, I don't have to worry about that anymore. Thanks, DC,” Jeremy said.  To personalize the boot even more, Jeremy used classic colors like white and black with a touch of red as tribute to his longtime Honda sponsor. Jeremy chose a red and black color combo for his hat, and a white colorway for his T-shirt.

With four FMX World Championship titles and an assortment of prestigious triumphs under his belt, there are no limits to what Nate can do in his Freestyle Motocross career. When collaborating with DC on his TeamWorks shoe, Nate chose the Command shoe for his personalized pack.

Commenting on his TeamWorks pack, Nate said, “I’m really pumped that DC wants to do something with me. They always make cool stuff, and I love my TeamWorks shoe!” The shoe features royal blue color hits in honor of his long-term career as a Yamaha team rider. Nate’s hat and T-shirt are offered in the blue colorway, and feature large DC logos.

DC originally created the DC TeamWorks Collection in the Spring of 2006, then continued it in the Spring of 2007 with the European Collective. The project was conceptualized by DC to give its skateboarders without signature shoes the opportunity to choose the colors, materials and patterns for their favorite skate shoes. The Holiday 2007 DC Moto TeamWorks Collection brings the concept to the motocross team, and is the latest incarnation of the TeamWorks concept.

In support of the Moto TeamWorks collection, DC will launch a micro site at dcshoes.com that will feature video Interviews, exclusive images, press clippings and other details on the project . DC will also have an upcoming poster signing to celebrate the launch of the collection. All TeamWorks footwear will come in a unique Moto TeamWorks box, and special DC Moto TeamWorks branding will appear on all product in each of the four TeamWorks packs. All products are available separately. The collection will be available September 1, 2007, at select retailers worldwide.  For more information on the DC Motocross Team, please visit www.dcshoes.com.
