Roman" size="3">CORTELHA

(PORTUGAL), 4 April 2010 – Yamaha rider Carlos Campano from Spain is
the
winner of the opening MX3 World Championship event in Portugal. Two
Husqvarnas finished top three – Italian Alex Salvini of the team
Cross 2 R
was second, Slovenian rider Matevz Irt of the team Tecno B finished
third.

Campano made a
perfect weekend in Cortelha. He took holeshot in both heats. As
Spanish
rider said, his Yamaha turned out as a great bike, in starts
specially. In
the second lap of the first heat Campano crashed in a sharp curve.
Hugo
Basaula came just behind him with the Suzuki, when Campano
continued. Alex
Salvini was riding third and overtook Basaula in the second
position. Then
Campano and Salvini made a huge advantage to competitors. Campano
was a winner,
Salvini was second.

There was a big
fight for the third position. Portugese Luis Correia catched Matevz
Irt,
riding third. In few attempts Correia passed Irt, but not for a long
time.
Irt won back the third position.

In the second heat
Campano took the lead and won the second time. Spanish explains: “I
live
close to this place but I never come here to practice. Yesterday I
got a
good feeling here and I knew I am good in starts. Starts are very
important
on this track. My Yamaha bike was running fine all the weekend, team
made a
proper settings and I could race smooth. Winter time was quite
difficult, I
had problems with my arms. I was training hard and I progressed with
every
weekend. Thank to my team and family for the support.”

Irt started second,
then already in the third lap Salvini passed him and finished
second. “I am
not happy. First start was bad, when I catched up Campano I felt
like there
is something wrong with my back wheel and I did not want to
exaggerate.
Second heat was pretty good. I hope to win in
France
next weekend. This winter we were working hard with the team,
specially
with Andrea Bartolini. I am in a good shape and I expect top
results. I
like the track in Cortelha, it has many jumps and I could enjoy,”
says
Salvini.

Matevz Irt finished
third overall. Slovenian rider says: “Preparations were difficult
this
winter. I changed the team and bike, I still must to work hard to
improve
many things. I have to improve my speed first. So I am very glad to
take
the podium already today. I did not expect that podium. First heat
was more
difficult because Correia was pushing more to overtake me. I am
happy, we
both took podium with my brother, who was 2nd in the EMX2
race.
I would really like to say thank to my new team Tecno B for the
support.”

Correia was fourth.
First four leading riders took same positions in both heats and the
same
was also overall classification: Carlos Campano win, Alex Salvini
was
second, Matevz Irt third, Luis Correia fourth, Portugese Henrique
Venda
finished top five.

Next event for the
FIM MX3 World Championship will be this weekend in
Castelnau de Levis ,
France .
