July 18, 2017 (San Bernardino, CA)—What could be better than a brand new dirt bike? How about a brand new dirt bike that’s been given the star treatment with top of the line components? That’s exactly what Chaparral Motorsports did with their latest project build, a red hot 2017 CRF 450R they call Red Alert!

The concept and parts list for this project came from Chaparral Motorsports’ offroad apparel manager, Travis Snyder. A big fan of big red, Travis wanted take a bone stock 450R off the showroom floor and turn it into a nearly race ready machine utilizing premium parts and accessories from some of the best aftermarket manufacturers in the industry. As an extremely competitive amateur racer, Travis had a really good idea as to what components a racer would install to help the bike brake, handle, and perform better.

The Chaparral Motorsports mod department was able to transform this Honda from mild to red hot with key modifications such as swapping out the exhaust for one of Yoshimura’s complete Signature Series RS-9T FS TI CF systems. The stock braking system was changed out for a Galfer oversized rotor and stainless steel brake lines, and up front a beautifully machined billet caliper from Ride Engineering was used. Ride Engineering was also tapped for the triple clamps and bar mounts which helped lighten things up and would improve handling. The team over at Dubya USA put together a set of red anodized hubs with black rims and spokes to match up with the swingarm which had been powdercoated black.

Other changes included new pegs from Flo Motorsports, Honda’s electric start kit, Hinson Billet proof clutch kit, and Acerbis plastics. The project was capped off with a full custom graphic set from the guys over at Magik Graphics and an extremely light weight seat that weighs only 3 ounces thanks to Think Technologies aerospace-grade seat foam.
