Bowers Looks to Clinch Championship This Weekend in Rockford

AURORA, Ill. (April 1, 2011)
After the conclusion of the 2010 AMA Arenacross Series season, no rider
was more unsatisfied with his outcome than Babbitt’s Monster
Energy/TiLUBE Kawasaki presented by Maxxis’ Tyler Bowers. After
dominating the championship for three-fourths of the season, Bowers
suffered a season-ending injury just as the schedule hit the home
stretch. With nine wins to his credit, Bowers sat on the sidelines and
saw the title go to his teammate Josh Demuth.

This
season, it’s been a mission for the Kentucky native to come back from
the unfortunate outcome from one year ago and with 10 wins and a points
lead of 38 points in the standings, it’s safe to say he’s done a pretty
good job of accomplishing that goal. Now, as the series heads to its
penultimate round of 2011, Bowers is in position to secure his first
professional title after compiling one of the most impressive seasons
in AMA Arenacross Series history.

The
season got off to a slow start for Bowers. After watching the first
three wins of the season go to TUF Honda’s Jeff Gibson, it looked as if
Bowers’ championship hopes would be based off a head-to-head battle
with one of his closest rivals. In Denver, Bower’s broke through for
his first win of the season and ended Gibson’s streak in the process.
It was at this point that the season hit its turning point and from
there, Bowers gradually began to assert himself as the rider to beat.

Throughout
all his achievements this season, which includes 13 podiums in 16
races, the most impressive element of Bowers’ 2011 campaign was his
stellar eight-race winning streak throughout the middle portion of the
season. It was this run, which included several hard-fought victories,
that helped Bowers extend his advantage over the rest of the field and
has now put him in the position he sits in this weekend.

Despite coming off a season-worst 11th-place
effort last weekend in Little Rock, Bowers still holds a near 40-point
advantage in the championship and if he leaves Rockford on Saturday
night with at least 25 points in his pocket, the 2011 AMA Arenacross
Series title that he’s worked so hard for will be his. Several riders
are looking to stand in Bowers’ way of accomplishing this task, led by
Gibson and Bowers’ Babbitt’s Monster Energy/TiLUBE Kawasaki teammate
Chad Johnson. It should all make for some incredible racing over the
course of two evenings.

The
MetroCentre in Rockford has been a longtime venue of the AMA Arenacross
Series. Currently, it is the home of the AHL’s Rockford Icehogs hockey
team, and in the past, has been the host arena for the Rockford
Lightning basketball team, the Rock River Raptors indoor football team,
and the Rockford Rampage indoor soccer team.

Opened
in 1981, it serves as one of the oldest venues on the schedule, but is
a beloved attribute of the city of Rockford. The arena garnered
headlines when it hosted the inaugural Arena Football League game in
1986, and is also well known for being one of the stops of the Rolling
Stones North American tour during its first year of business in 1981.

The
action commences for the Rockford Arenacross this Friday and Saturday
at 7 p.m. CT. Amateur Day concludes an exciting weekend of action on
Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m. CT

Advance
tickets are available for the Rockford Arenacross at the MetroCentre
Box Office, online at MetroCentre.com and by phone at 815-968-5222.
Tickets cost $2 more the day of the race.
