Bowers Leads Babbitt’s Kawasaki Sweep with Third Victory of the Season at Night Two from Madison

Willy Browning Takes First Arenacross Lites Victory of Season

MADISON, Wis. – The 2012 AMA Arenacross Series championship took another turn on Saturday night from the Alliant Energy Center, as Babbitt’s Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki presented by Maxxis’ Tyler Bowers, of Danville, Ky., grabbed his third win of the season. In the Arenacross Lites class, Foremost Insurance/Spinechillers/Storm Lake Honda KTM’s Willy Browning, of Pleasantville, Ohio, raced to his first win of the year.

One night after coming up short in his bid for win number three last night with a runner-up effort, Bowers bounced back with a strong effort. While Wisconsin native, and Babbitt’s Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki rider, Chad Johnson, of Rhinelander, Wis., grabbed the early lead, looking to take a big win in front of his hometown crowd, Bowers made a quick move to take over the top spot. Once out front, Bowers never looked back, winning by over eight seconds.

While Johnson held on to bring home a season-best result in second, a battle for third ensued. Throughout the majority of the 25-lap main event, this battle was between Friday night winner, and FMF Power/Poynt TUF Honda rider, Jeff Gibson, of Blacklick, Ohio, and Foremost Insurance/Spinechillers/Storm Lake Honda’s Nathan Skaggs, of Chillicothe, Ohio. As Gibson attempted to pass, he and Skaggs made contact, allowing Babbitt’s Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki’s Josh Demuth, of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Team Faith KTM’s Kelly Smith, of Ludington, Mich., to slip past. In the end, Demuth fended off all challengers to give Team Babbitt’s its second podium sweep of the season.

In the Arenacross Lites class, Browning was the rider to beat throughout the 18-lap main event. He grabbed the lead out of the gates, and never looked back. Friday night winner, Michael Willard, of Newark, Ohio, kept Browning honest throughout the race aboard his Dragon Racing Fuels/AG Motorsports KTM. He looked to slip past his fellow KTM-mounted rival, but ultimately came up just short of sweeping the weekend with a strong second-place effort. Gateway Cycles Kawasaki’s Steven Mages, of Sardinia, Ohio, rounded out the podium in third.

In the Dash for Cash, Gibson took an impressive win, with proceeds going to the local Lussier Teen Center.

The 2012 AMA Arenacross Series continues on next month, on December 9-10, with Round 4 from Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes Barre, Pa. Opening ceremonies for two nights of action begin at 7 p.m. ET.
