Amp'd Mobile Supercross Finale in Las Vegas Features the Longest Start in History

AURORA, Ill. (April 30, 2007) – When the gate drops at the Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP/Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series finale on May 5 at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium, the top riders in the world will encounter a track that features some unique and challenging obstacles, including a series record 800 ft. start straight.

“With the start being 800 ft. long and the entire playing field being used for our various obstacles, fans will be given the ultimate blend of speed and a demanding track,” said Todd Jendro, senior director of supercross, Live Nation.

Dating back to the inaugural race in 1990, the track at Sam Boyd Stadium has been considered one of the most challenging on the circuit. The dirt used to construct the course is hard packed and often gets dry and slick, which is critical for tire selection and bike set up.

In addition to the challenging track conditions, the track building crew has implemented several unique obstacles, including the “flat track” style section that sends the riders out of the stadium, around the North end locker room and back into the stadium at high speeds. Lap times are also expected to be the longest of the season, nearing 1:15 per lap.

“What better race to have such a dynamic track for the fans than the Las Vegas finals,” explained Jendro. “The playing surface at Las Vegas is fairly small compared to most of the other stadiums we visit on the series, so we’ve gotten creative over the years. This one is going to be a track unlike anything these riders have seen before.”
