Ames Is Name Of The Game As MDK/LUCAS Oil-WWR Keep The Streak Alive

Newbury Park, CA (February 26, 2007) – Zach Ames, hot off the Arenacross series and riding out of the MDK/Lucas Oil hosted DeCal Works/P-LoK Hog Haven, made the Lites main, extending Wonder Warthog Racing’s (WWR) record of placing a rider in a main at every event this season. 

The AMA Amp’d Mobile Supercross Series moved east; from the slippery, hard-packed California tracks to the tacky red clay in Atlanta, Georgia. MDK Speed Equipment supplied the motor that blasted Zach Ames into his first ever main event. He ran as high as high as 7th place; eventually going on to finish 16th. Zach nailed down a 3rd in the Last Chance Qualifier, after missing the cut in his heat race by one position.

The night also marked the Supercross debut of Kyle Tobin, the Dana K/WWR Intern for the East Lites series. Kyle’s first professional race was encouraging and marked by improvement every time he hit the track; from his qualifying heat to the LCQ, where he missed the main by a couple of positions. It was a good race for Kyle to work out the butterflies.

Jeffery Tomlinson, the WWR Chief of Logistics, earned the team’s weekly “Barnett Clutch Performance” award by orchestrating the change from the West to East Coast. He oversaw the swap, which included seven riders rotating out of the program and eight in. Jeff’s feat is that of a logistical miracle. WWR owes a debt of gratitude to the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute (MMI) Interns that were instrumental in insuring that everything went like clockwork.

Besides Ames and Tobin, the new riders entering into the program included Dave Ginolfi, Tim Hollenbeck, Geddy Karrle, Austin Prescott, Bryan White, and Ashlee Woskob. 

The team has now placed eight different riders in a total of 18 main events.

Five riders qualified for the night program in Atlanta. The qualified rider roster this week included Ames, Tobin, Antonio Balbi, Geddy Karrle and Jacob Saylor.

The entire team wishes Ryan Abrigo a speedy recovery for the injuries he incurred during practice this past week. “Ryan’s entire program was right on track for him to have a breakthrough series in the east. We are extremely disappointed that Ryan won’t be able to showcase his considerable talent this season and look forward to seeing him back on the track”, said Steve Bauer, WWR’s President and Director of Racing Programs.
