Alessi Earns 5th Overall at Steel City Motocross

Delmont,
PA
– Jagermeister/KTM rider Mike Alessi earned another top five
finish at the 11th
round of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship at Steel City
Raceway.

Alessi
started the day off well turning practice times within the top five
overall fastest times. After both practices he sat 5th
overall in combined practice times. His fifth place gate pick slotted
him on the very inside line at the start of moto one.

When the
gate dropped, Alessi launched off the line and rounded the first
corner around 7th
place. Alessi maintained his pace and was able to hold on to his 7th
place spot through the remainder of the race. “My goal was to
finish inside the top five but I couldn’t find a rhythm once I got
going and I just tried to maintain my place and not lose any
positions,” remarked Alessi.

In the
second moto, Alessi improved his start and came around the first
corner around 5th.
He maintained that place for the first lap before losing one position
and falling to 6th.
A few laps later he began a battle with Ryan Sipes for his position.
Sipes eventually passed Alessi a few laps into the race. Alessi kept
Sipes within his view for the remainder of the race but was not able
to close the gap. Alessi eventually finished 7th
in the moto. His 7-7 moto results earned 5th
overall for the day.

FMF/KTM
rider Phil Nicoletti filled in for the injured Tommy Searle for the
third weekend in a row in the 250 class. Nicoletti qualified 15th
overall in timed practice times and began to prepare for the main
event.

In moto
one, Nicoletti garnered a 10th
place start and finished the first lap one position down. He raced
around that position for the majority of the moto before trouble
struck. First Nicoletti had a rock stuck in his front brake which
caused problems early on and later he encountered a mechanical
problem that caused him to not finish the race.

In the
second moto, Nicoletti rounded the first turn around 12th
position. Nicoletti quickly began defending his position from the
hard charging riders behind. He maintained his position until the
halfway point when bad luck struck again. Nicoletti was once again
forced to withdrawal from the race. “I am bummed with my results
the past two weekends. I have been close to the top ten the past few
races and have just had fluke problems come up that have caused me to
not finish the races. I still have one race left on the factory team
and I would like to get a top ten finish for my team,” stated
Nicoletti.
