Press Release

Adrien Chareyre GP Winner and Championship Leader

VILLARS SOUS ECOT, 3 June 2007- There was an unusual sun on the La Versenne circuit for this second round of the season.

11000 people attended the FIM Supermoto Grand Prix of France, which was a complete national success in the S1 class, with Adrien Chareyre winning the event, and another French-speaking rider, Belgian Gerald Delepine, winning the S2 class.

It was a different story in the UEM European Supermoto Championship, where Italian Tommaso Iacoboni was on top of the S3 podium, and Czech Petr Vorlicek dominated the Open class with two back to back heat wins.

S1
It was an unpredictable S1 Grand Prix for Aprilia Off Road’s Thierry Van Den Bosch, who broke the bike when he was leading the opening moto. On the other hand CH Azzalin’s Adrien Chareyre showed all his potential by winning heat one, and finishing second in the final. A surprising Kevin Berthome of Rexfelgen Wheels Cross2R was second overall, ahead of a solid Thomas Chareyre.

Thierry Van Den Bosch did not score points in moto one because of a technical failure

S1 GRAND PRIX RACE 1
Thierry Van Den Bosch headed the pack into turn one, followed by his most dangerous rivals Adrien and Thomas Chareyre, Sylvain Bidart and Kevin Berthome.
Adrien kept VDB in his sights until the defending Champion had a technical problem; his bike stopped, with VDB handing first to Adrien Chareyre. The Frenchman cruised in first place for the remaining six laps, while Thomas Chareyre was closing in on Bidart.
The battle for second was tough, but Bidart made no mistake on the twisty French track, and brought the bike home with second. Thomas Chareyre settled down for third, as Berthome rode a strong race in fifth place, that changed into fourth as Van Den Bosch quit the race.
It was the same for Aurelien Rolland, who completed the top five after trying to catch Berthome, as 2005 World Champion Boris Chambon made it safe to sixth.

S1 GRAND PRIX RACE 2
VDB was once again the quickest to get into the first turn, but a French squad made of the Chareyre brothers, Berthome and Bidart was right on his tail.
Adrien Chareyre followed VDB for the whole race, but the Aprilia rider kept ice cold even under that much pressure. He made no mistakes, winning the final moto from Adrien Chareyre, who actually won his first GP of the season.
Kevin Berthome was another ice cold Frenchman on track, as he closed all doors to an exuberant Thomas Chareyre. The Italian GP winner was his gutsy self, and tried to pass Berthome with a final manoeuvre at the entrance to the off road section.
Berthome kept third place ahead of Chareyre, who lost second in the podium from his countryman. Sylvain Bidart completed the top five, right ahead of Bernd Hiemer.

Adrien Chareyre left Villars with a full score

S2
Former Motocrosser Gerald Delepine of CH Azzalin –the team won in both classes today- made the most of the demanding off road section to win his first GP of the season. Attilio Pignotti of KTM Italia Miglio was on the podium with second place, battling with Iddon and Delepine in both heats. Aprilia Off Road’s Christian Iddon completed the podium after having being ill for the whole week.

S2 GRAND PRIX RACE 1
Christian Iddon had a storming start from pole, but Simone Girolami was on his tail, and passed before the end of the opening lap. The Italian had a mechanical problem and retired, handing first back to Iddon, but the British was not safe at all.
Gerald Delepine was closing in on him, and passed at half race distance. The duo lapped close for quite a while as each of them was faster on a different surface –Iddon on the asphalt, Delepine on the off road.
Iddon finally lost the contact with Delepine, to receive the attacks of a very dangerous Attilio Pignotti, who closed in on the leading duo after a slow start. The Italian put massive pressure on young Iddon, who made absolutely no mistakes to bring the bike home with second, in between winner Delepine and Pignotti, third.
Davide Gozzini was fourth, after he survived to Matt Winstanley’s attacks. The British was very quick until half race distance, as the Italian was more consistent and passed Robert Baraccani for fourth. Baraccani finished fifth ahead of Winstanley.

S2 GRAND PRIX RACE 2
Gerald Delepine had some troubles at the start, being hit by other riders, and dropped down to the bottom of the top ten. On the other hand, Simone Girolami had a brilliant start ahead of Iddon and Gozzini.
Girolami wanted to make up for moto one, and so he did, by dominating all the 14 laps; in the meantime Gozzini and Iddon were fighting for second, then Gozzini passed and Iddon begun to give chase.
Iddon tangled up with Gozzini when the Italian stalled his bike on the off road section, and this was the chance for Ales Hlad and Pignotti to move up to second and third respectively.
By the time they got there, leader Girolami was too far, and both challengers settled down for a top three finish. Iddon had to restart from sixth behind Baraccani, as Delepine finally reached fourth.
Iddon fought his hardest to enter the top five, and made it with two laps to go.
On the other hand, Gozzini damaged his TM in the crash, and had to retire from the race.

Gerald Delepine clinched his first victory of the season in Villars also in 2006

IN THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS STANDINGS
This was Adrien Chareyre’s perfect day, as the new S1 Championship leader won his home Grand Prix and snatched the lead from Van Den Bosch all in one day. His brother Thomas moved past VDB as well, and now lies second in the points standings. VDB dropped down to third, but he is only 15 points away from the lead. Kevin Berthome moved up to fifth, behind Jerome Giraudo. Sylvain Bidart improved from tenth to sixth place.

Gerald Delepine increased his lead in the S2 class by five points, but Christian Iddon is still second, waiting for his chance to move in front of the Belgian. Attilio Pignotti completes the top three, but he is just two points behind Iddon. Ales Hlad has moved past Gozzini to clinch fourth, and leave the Italian with fifth. Robert Baraccani bounced up from eleventh to sixth ahead of Jorge Nestor.

UEM-EUROPEAN SUPERMOTO CHAMPIONSHIP
Tommaso Iacoboni and Romain Febvre shared today’s victory, but the Italian was the overall winner. Iacoboni raced a solid final moto, dominating for almost the whole race, and finishing first from Riccardo Peroni and Febvre.
Peroni was back on the podium –third- ahead of Baptiste Rheims, fourth overall. The Frenchman lost the Championship lead from Iacoboni; Rheims lies in second place, ahead of Peroni and Olivier Scheen.

The podium of the S3 class

Petr Vorlicek took a flawless victory, ahead of Belgian young gun Lionel Deridder. Deridder clinched a second and a third place, exactly like countryman Vincent Paquet, who finished third overall. Omar Pelliccioni was fourth, and Alberto Dall’Era completed the top five.
Deridder is now second in the Championship, behind Vorlicek.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY
Tuesday, June 5, will celebrate the 2007 World Environment Day, an initiative started by the United Nations, that found many promoters along its way.
FIM is one of these, and together with its contractual partner Youthstream, FFM (French Motorcycling Federation) and Motoclub Villars, it organized a special promotion this weekend before the event, during the Supermoto Grand Prix of France.
World Champions Thierry Van Den Bosch of Aprilia and Bernd Hiemer of KTM spoke about environment on TV, and a press conference -with Youthstream’s General Manager Luigi Zompetti, FIM/CMS President Dr. Wolfgang Srb, Aprilia Off Road Team Manager Ennio Marchesin and KTM Italia Miglio Team Manager Massimo Migliorati- was held on Sunday morning to explain the parties’ commitment in the project.
