AMA/WMA Women’s Motocross National Championship Hits Stretch Run at The Motosport.com National at Washougal Motocross Park 1

WASHOUGAL, Wash. (July 24, 2008) – The AMA/WMA Women’s Motocross National Championship Presented by Kawasaki makes its celebrated return to competition this weekend after a three-week break. Series points leader Ashley Fiolek, second-place competitor Sarah Whitmore aboard her Shift/Etnies Girls Suzuki, and five-time champion Jessica Patterson of American Honda/Honda of Houston/Fox Racing/Bad Boy Energy Drink bring the excitement of one of the fastest growing motocross series in the country to the 28th Annual Motosport.com National at Washougal Motocross Park Presented by Yamaha and Scott USA on July 26-27.

In its previous round at the first-ever WMA night race from Thunder Valley Motocross Park in Lakewood, Colo., outstanding bar-to-bar action thrilled the thousands in attendance as Fiolek grabbed her third overall victory of the season while Malcolm Smith Suzuki/Zip Ty Racing's Sherri Cruse notched her first career moto win.

American Honda/Red Bull/Alpinestars’ Fiolek enters Washington fresh off a minor wrist injury. After taking a week off as a precaution, the rookie phenom is 100% and ready to get back in action with her counterparts.

"I am looking forward to racing again for the WMA championship,” said Fiolek. “We have been off for a few weeks and I know that all of the girls are training and are getting ready for this, it should be some good racing!"

Adding to the intrigue of the WMA’s return are a handful of local riders looking to achieve success in front of their hometown crowd. Jessica Smith, of Tacoma, currently sits 13th in the standings while Seattle’s Kristine Wright sits 16th. Auburn’s Sydney Babcock will make her professional debut this weekend while 2007 WORCS Off-Road Women’s Champion Maria Forsburg, of Brier, and Ontario, Canada’s Jolene Van Vugt, a back-flipping member of Nitro Circus, grab extra attention.

The AMA/WMA Women’s Motocross National Championship Presented by Kawasaki from The Motosport.com National at Washougal Motocross Park will race its first 15-minute moto on Saturday at 4:45 p.m., and conclude the weekend on Sunday at 10:40 a.m.
