AMA Arenacross Series Continues West Coast Swing in Sacramento, Gibson Still in Lead

Gibson Rebounds with Big Win in Fresno

AURORA, Ill. (February 16, 2009) – Last weekend, the 2009 AMA Arenacross Series made its annual foray to the West Coast with the first of two rounds in California at the Save Mart Center in Fresno. This weekend, the series returns to the state capitol of Sacramento and the friendly confines Arco Arena. Tickets for this Saturday’s action start at just $18 adults and $5 for children.

The action in Fresno was exciting as Mahindra Tractors/Tuf Honda’s Jeff Gibson rebounded from a pair of rough outings to grab his series-leading fifth win of 2009. The current points leader was forced to watch his once comfortable points lead diminish over the last couple weeks while he suffered from a string of misfortune. However, his convincing win last Saturday appears to have put him back on track as he was able to extend his advantage over closest rival Nathan Skaggs, of Spinechillers/Storm Lake Honda.

“I needed this,” exclaimed Gibson. “I got a good start and tried to be smart. The past couple weeks have been tough. I’ve been riding well, but just suffered a little bad luck. It’s great to bounce back and get a win and help myself out in the points a little bit.”

While Gibson battles to regain control, Skaggs is hungrier than ever to stake his claim as a championship contender. However, reigning and two-time series champion Chad Johnson lurks in third place aboard his Babbitt’s Monster Energy Kawasaki.

In the AMA Arenacross Lites class, the Western Regional Championship got underway as GPF/Babbitt’s Kawasaki’s Tyler Medaglia set the tone for the three-round title chase with a big win. Over the course of the next two weeks, the most promising young arenacross riders will battle it out and a Western Regional Champion will be crowned.

With one of the most raucous fan bases in the country, the Sacramento stop on the AMA Arenacross Series is sure to keep the thousands in attendance on the edge of their seats as the 2009 AMA Arenacross Series continues its quest for a champion.
