51FIFTY Energy Drink Yamaha - Salt Lake City Race Report

51FIFTY Energy Drink Yamaha

Two Riders In Top 10 at SLC SX

Livingston, CA. (April 26, 2017)- The 51FIFTY Energy Drink Yamaha Team came into the Salt Lake City Supercross with high expectations, a plan to combat the elevation/temperature of Salt Lake, and the return of the "Hulk", Tyler Bowers. The team would depart SLC with both riders (Hayden & Bowers) finishing inside the Top 10.

Supercross returned to Salt Lake City and the fans/city enthusiastically embraced the teams and riders. 51FIFTY Energy Drink Yamaha and other Factory Yamaha teams started the weekend at a packed autograph session at South Valley Motorsports, the lines for the team Pit Experience were busy all race day and, shockingly, the Marriot Hotel never complained as team staff along with Jamie Ellis from Twisted Development dyno'd race bikes in the parking lot all night Friday. There was a buzz prior to racing and it only improved for the team.....

After a lay off with a broken femur suffered at Phoenix SX, Tyler Bowers was back in action and ready to race 250 Heat 1 with teammate Hayden Mellross. Both riders came through with good starts, Tyler in 2nd place for much of the race and Hayden working his way forward from further back. Bowers rode solid, and as his first race back conserved energy, riding a calculated race to finish right on the leaders in 4th. Hayden would work his way up to 7th, both riders transferring directly in the Main.

The 51FIFTY Energy Drink Yamaha riders were pinched off on the start of the 250 Main event but worked their way through traffic. Bowers and Mellross, rounding the first turn in about 16th-18th, rode smart and consistently as the laps led on with both riders making impressive passes. Ultimately, Mellross would cross the line in 8th and Bowers in 10th.

"Even though this wasn't a career best finish for me, I still feel it was the best I have rode all season," Mellross remarked after the race. "I was able to ride strong for the entirety of the race and set some of the fastest times of the night."

"I've really missed being back at the races," Bowers mentioned at the end of the night. "I don't think I rode to my full potential; however, I know Top 10 is pretty strong after this much time off. I've got that race under my belt and I'll work my butt off for the next two weeks and be ready for Vegas."

With both riders in the top 10, the night was a stepping stone for the team. Team Owner, Carlos Vieira, had a message that resonated for the entire team, "These milestones are what is necessary to make it to the top. Keep up the good work and believing that we can achieve anything if we put our mind and passion towards it. That is being 51FIFTY, that is Living the Madness. Congrats Team, Excellent job. Proud!"
