MT. MORRIS, Pa. (June 10, 2008) – For the first time in 2008, the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship Presented by FMF makes its way east of the Mississippi as it prepares for the 32nd Annual Kawasaki/Monster Energy Motocross National Presented by Centra Bank at High Point Raceway on June 14-15. This Father’s Day weekend event will bring 20,000 motocross faithful to one of the most storied tracks on the circuit.
The veteran facility, owned and operated by the Coombs family, will also kick-off Round One of the Monster Energy/Kawasaki Triple Crown of Motocross, an exciting three-race showdown in which riders from both the AMA Motocross and AMA Motocross Lites classes will vie for their stake in $100,000 in cash and prizes.
A newly-redesigned circuit by Marc Peters of Petersbuilt Tracks will present a new challenge to the world’s best riders, with more than half of the traditional track layout being changed to add even more excitement to one of the competitors’ most well-liked venues. In addition, race signage will be improved throughout the facility both on track and in the surrounding areas, providing more exposure to the true supporters of the sport. Banners will be laid across the faces of several of the tracks monstrous jumps, creating a unique advertising opportunity, while billboards pay homage to those made famous at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch.
Monster Energy Kawasaki’s James Stewart and Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto are on a roll, each boasting multiple victories in their respective classes. However, the action could get tighter this weekend as Rockstar/Makita Suzuki’s Mike Alessi, fellow Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Tim Ferry, Red Bull Honda’s Davi Millsaps, Andrew Short, and Ivan Tedesco, and Factory Yamaha’s Josh Hill are ready to battle bar-to-bar with Stewart in AMA Motocross. In AMA Motocross Lites, Villopoto needs to keep an eye out for Rockstar/Makita Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey, Boost Mobile Yamaha of Troy’s Jason Lawrence, Geico Powersports Honda’s Jake Weimer, and Kawasaki teammates Austin Stroupe and Brett Metcalfe as they look to close the gap.
In addition to the excitement of the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship Presented by FMF, Saturday is jam packed with unique events for the fans to enjoy. GNCC-Style Motocross Country Racing, Rocket Rob’s Minibike Nationals, and a Parts Unlimited Vintage Bike Show highlight the day’s activities while the band Ten Man Push brings the action to a close with a live concert Saturday night.
Before the bikes are fired for the official start on Sunday, the Parts Unlimited Legends Lap, with some of the sport’s biggest names from the 1970s, ‘80s and ‘90s, will bring the crowd to its feet in preparation for the best motocross racing on the planet.
