Christian Craig Back Surgery

When you see images like this, all you can do is say, "Ow," be thankful you're not in his spot, and be glad that it wasn't worse.

Then you maybe wonder when we're going to see some really awesome spinal protection...and if/when it's available, will pro riders actually use it?

The good news is, Christian's surgery apparently went well, and he'll undergo a second operation in a few months to get all that hardware removed.

With Christian on the mend, you have to wonder who the Troy Lee crew will pick to join the team. When we saw David Pingree last week (before Christian's crash at the KTM track, which they share with the TLD team), he was quizzing us on who was available, and would make good additions to their team.

There are still some opportunities out there...

The "Other" Silly Season

With race teams tightening their belts there's not just riders looking for work, but race teams as well. That means there are plenty of talented wrenches on the market looking for new gigs. We were out shooting some video with Nico Izzi yesterday, and spotted Dave Feeney (formerly of the Rockstar Makita Suzuki squad) working with the DNA Shred Stix / Star Racing / Yamaha guys.

Just about all the Rockstar Makita Suzuki guys were let go after the MXoN and U.S. Open, and it sounds like Ryan Dungey's mechanic for the last couple years, Mark Valcore is among them. It sounds like Dungey will be matched up with Mike Gosselaar for the 2010 season.

It'll be interesting to see where some of the other talented mechanics and techs (and truck drivers) land as we get closer to the season.
