Team Monster USA's Ricky Carmichael took the first qualifier after leading early, having a small crash. Once he remounted (the bike was still running), he repassed for the lead on the same lap. South African (and U.S. National Motocross Champ) Grant Langston stayed close to Ricky early, took over the lead when he fell, and finished second, well ahead of Italy's David Phillapaerts.
Team USA topped the day with three dominating wins, and looks like the team to beat tomorrow.
