I picked up a 1997 a couple months ago too and have totally restored it mechanically just needs new plastics at this point. You may want to consider a HGS pipe for it, it was the only uncoated pipe I could find for it that was in stock, no one else has them anymore. PC said they would make one but couldn't give me a good time frame of when it would be done. The HGS fit really good and the bike runs great, seems to have noticeably better over rev and maybe just a bit more through out.
Nice! HGS came stock on my 13 TM. Sounded crisp and worked really well. I skimped on my other 97 and just did a PC. Sounded good as all pro circuits do. But didn't have the 90s look with the newer style rounded end cap
Nice! That's pretty much what mine will look like soon, except I decided to just do tank and shroud graphics and leave off the trim kit. I put a bud racing silencer on mine which has the rounded end cap as well, would have liked the old school end cap but this things pretty trick. If I wanted to take apart a brand new silencer I could just take the cover off because under the carbon is an old school tip.

Man, do I have to do all your guess' research? Lol. There's an old school stinger-type pc silencer on Ebay right now too.

For their refurb price and the price of that pipe on eBay you're looking at a potentially rocking deal!
I bought one of those pipe repair kits, myself. It comes in handy and expands (no pun intended haha) your options when buying used pipes.
