Hi Guys, just wondering how hard it is to turn down Hubs on a lathe for that smooth factory look (then get coated)
At my workshop we have a lathe that is up to the task but this is something I've never attempted before and wondered how hard it is??

I can turn basic spacers etc on the lathe but I'm no professional!!

Any feedback welcome or shall I leave to to the pro's??

theres companies that will do the full disassembly, turnin it down, coat it, and reassemble your wheels.

Im just an engineer, not a machinist. So i dont know how much material our guys remove on cast surfaces. I usually model in .030" to be removed for a smooth finish. If you think you can follow the contour of your hubs and still maintain structure then go for it.

If you're willing to put in some time and be patient, it really isn't too difficult. You'll have the best results doing everything by hand: All you need are a few good files, varying sheets of emery cloth (Course, Medium, Fine), and some polishing compound (if you're into that look)...I've also heard great things about TCR, but had mine done by http://www.ahmfactoryservices.com/ simply because they're SoCal based.

Here is a before and after shot:

Here's a KXF rear that was done back in 2009. It went through three different bikes from 09-14' and besides a bit of patina, still looks way better than any OE Japanese hub, in my opinion.
