Hey guys my 2016 KTM 125 just hit 50 hours. I got it with 30 hours and put a new Piston in at 40.

What intervals are you guys doing Pistons or rings?

How are the bottom ends holding up?

What's your oil change interval?

Thanks for the advice!

The best way I have found to schedule maintenance is to do a compression test when you do a fresh top end job. Record it and then from time to time check it against the rebuilt numbers and when it drops about 20% do it again.
While in there check the rod for up and down movement. It will need a crank when that happens.
Look, no 2 riders are the same just as no 2 bike are the same and thus you will find the sweet spot on needed maintenance this way.

Very true. I haven't owned a 2 stroke since I was 16... Some people tell me 20 hours, then I've heard 40. Thanks for the advice!

40 hours from a 125 is too much. I can feel mine starting to get tired around 15 or so. I usually do a piston every other refresh. Measure and inspect the piston after your first rebuild, if you have not sucked dirt they are usually perfect.

I change the top-end always around 12-15 hours with my 125, but most tracks around here are deep sand, where the bikes have to work very hard.

I've always gone 10-12 hours for rings and piston at 20-25. Bottom end at 4 pistons our when there is up and down movement in the rod
