What do you guys like for honing tools for the small bore of a 53mm YZ Supermini?
I'm seeking exact brand names as there seems to be a LOT of them out there.

Any tips or favorite practices on honing with piston change would be welcome too.

If Nikisal (sp) no honing needed/recommended from what I have seen. I usually just use green scotchbrite pad and made sure cylinder was extremely clean. Sometimes a light scuff with emory paper to remove residue. Then dry assemble and run one heat cycle to make sure seated and run hard after that. We were getting 15-20 hrs out of our 105 and the pistons looked fresh coming out and ran strong................

The honing debate is like "What oil is best?" debate. You have one camp that recommends it, they call it "deglazing". The other camp is strictly against it.

I say leave it alone. No honing. If its that bad, get a new cylinder or have it replated. Cylinders on Super mini are cheap. Some gentle green Scotchbrite pad to clean things up a little, no issue. No way I would be sticking a hone it it. Ask people what happens when the hone catches on the ports.

you can do a quick deglaze/hone with 240-320 grit sand paper at all.

the rigid hones are best but not cheap and work best with an oil bath

You should not use a ball hone. The proper way to do it would be a rigid hone and honing oil, and just a few quick passes.

I vote dont touch it. Just get it replated. If you arent a machinist who knows exactly what youre doing theres a high chance of messing it up
