2005 RMZ450 with hour meter installed, it has 15.6 hrs now never ridden hard. At hour 4 valves were adjusted and Weisco piston and crank installed. I want to keep in tip top shape and have changed the oil every 2 hours...which has been twice since I have owned it (just got it last week). Would you know if the cam chain needed tension adjusted since I have a manual OEM tensioner before it was too late? Also I am mainly trail riding, pretty low rpms never really rap it out too hard, how often would you check valves and cam chain tension? Thanks.

I check mine every time i do a top end. Every 10 hours at the most. You have the head off anyways. Might as well examine everything.

Its that easy to do huh? Just 2 allen bolts for valve cover..do you use torque wrench for those 2 nuts? Im having trouble finding a consistent answer for torque setting for those 2 allens for an 05.

So just an update...I changed the oil over to full synthetic. Running 10w40 Suzuki Race Full Syn. It quieted down the normal noise of the engine a little bit. So it definitely has got to be all in spec and good to go. Kicks over first kick runs so damn smooth at idle and all rpm's. No knocks, slaps, pings, digs, chings, or dongs..no dongs. Oh and also oil filter had ZERO metal shavings so I am pretty stoked about that. Was curious about getting to the strainer but a lot of people said don't worry about it for a while and it is hard as heck to get to on an 05 zuk 450

Is there a concern for that year's stock crank? Or, just putting a better quality piece in?

He just wanted to install better quality parts for the hell of it. He is head mechanic at a Zuk dealership bike was VERY well maintained and he has money to burn and many bikes, he was only owner of the 05 and kept it really pretty and mint and just wanted to put better parts in since he has the skill to do so and the tools as well. I got a really good deal on it, I know him well, have all service records. Just want to keep it in the condition it is in that is why so many questions.

Yes its very easy. If i were you i would pick up a service manual for your bike from your friend. every bolt on that bike has a torque spec. That manual will tell you when to service things and how to tell when stuff is out of spec. Rockymountain and others have great videos on youtube that show how to do a lot of common things for bikes. Do as much research as you can to learn as much as you can.

That motor is pretty solid with a manual tensioner. Trail riding, you will get 20 plus hours between valve inspections. Clean oil and clean air and I would not worry about top end rebuild for 100 hours. MX use will be different.

Did you get the stock crank with the bike ? Wiseco cranks do not have the best reputation for reliability.

He did it because he wanted better parts he's a good friend of mine. There was nothing wrong with the stock piston either. Weisco for that too.
