Changed the filter in my '17 FC350 today after eh first ride and noticed a small tear in the inside foam. Not all the way through just a chunk missing. I then put a new filter I had bought on the cage and same tear appeared when I removed it. I noticed at the tip of the center point on the cage has a bur from the plastic mold that seems to be ripping the foam. Luckily I caught it before it could have ripped all the way through. I filed it down and seems to have helped but wanted to give a heads up to other owners to check this. Hoping whatever small chunk of foam didn't get sucked into the engine. First one was definitely how it came from the factory.

That small of a chunk wouldn't hurt anything if it went through your engine bro.

I hate how the top center pierces into the filter, I sanded mine down a bit but it's still too thin and should have been built with a wider shelf to sit on. Definitely good to make sure your cage doesn't have any little jagged pieces on top there that will cut easier like you mentioned.

I run the NoToil cage with no issues. 30 hours or so.

Which brand are you using?

It's the stock cage that had the bur on it. I filed it down and smoothed it out. That tear is from the original filter installed from the factory and it also did it to a new twinair I test fit. It is a small chunk but due to the weird design I'm sure it could have ripped through after a few changes. I am not fond of this new design of the new cage.

Right on, I thought after I posted you were probably thinking of a screened cage you'd have to cut out or something.

The two stroke cages do not have the backfire screen. Someone makes a plastic one aftermarket pretty cheap too.
