I moved back down to Florida from Virginia and I just put my bike in storage and haven't rode since moving. Went to the storage yesterday and noticed a puddle of oil? Didn't see anywhere where it leaked from other then on the bottom of the chain guard? I have replaced the inner clutch gasket before.

Could be counter shaft oring. Easy fix just replace seal spacer and orings and sprocket if worn

Just take the counter shaft sprocket off and they will pop out? That sounds like it because it was oily under the shifter

Wow you got really lucky!! At least you found the problem and you now know how to fix it if a new clip doesn't do the job

If you ever have a leak there and no time to fix it or get parts you can always do a quick fix by putting a small oring on shaft behind sprocket and that will help stop oil leak until you can get parts. It will put enough pressure on old oring to stop leak

Oh ok that is helpful. I don't think it was leaking before because I had it on a stand. But now I have it on the triangle and it is leaning so the oil is coming out

I"ve had brand new Xc 300"s leak like this, the Ktm oring is too thin, a new one will leak again in short order. All balls makes a kit with everything you need that includes different thicknesses of orings, use thicker oring & problem solved, just have to push on the sprocket a bit when installing the clip, after clip is installed on shaft to hold sprocket, make sure it's clean with brake parts cleaner & apply a bead of silicone over the clip........

If it leaks again I'll get it. I already ordered the stock one. Appreciate it though!! So it's a known problem huh?

Yes, very common on the 2 strokes, not sure if they corrected this on the 17"s with the engine redesign, but everyone of my Xc 300"s leaked from there at one time or another, my 2015 Xc started leaking at about 3 hrs from brand new. More of an annoyance than anything...I knew it was the oring, I went to 3 hardware stores & could not find a suitable replacement oring, Allballs felt it was common enough to make a kit that specifically addresses the issue.

It only started recently for me. I think it's because I put it on the triangle instead of the stand and the oil was at an angle

Mine had an odd oil drip last winter and I figured it was either the shifter or c-shaft seal. I was all set to order some parts when I pulled the airbox cover and realized that oil had pooled in the box and was running out the cover and down the frame.

I got it out. I ended up scratching the inside a little bit but it should be fine right?

I would make sure there are no burrs and if the scratches aren't the same width as where the seal sits you will be fine. If some scratches are the whole width u could take a little honda bond or similar and lightly smear in scratches. From what I think I can see where u scratched it I would just deburr and install new seal. Make sure you put a light layer of grease on oring and seal lips.
