What tool do I need to measure how high my piston is over the cylinder bore in .001's? I presume a caliper will work for the circumference?

Thanks

Dial indicator, very important to provide info when getting squish cut. Many on eBay (kit) for $40.

You'll need a deck bridge to put a dial indicator in. They are damn hard to come by in the size we need them for these single cylinders you can find em all day but they will be too long. I had a machinist make me one for $50

Thanks. So it might be just as easy and cost effective to just send the shop my motor and cylinder head and let them measure and fix it?

I've always used the depth Guage on the sliders of digital calipers. Not mega accurate, but you can get a good estimate.
