new clutch bastket plates fibers now extra play in cabel

I replaced my whole clutch... plates, fibers, basket, pressure plate, springs. Now I have tons of extra play in my cable(from where it was previous to rebuild) I had to adjust the in line cabel adjustment out a lot why???? I figured i would have to bring adjustments in considiring the more a clutch wears the more you adjust out. Also at what point of clutch lever release should clutch disengage and ingage?? It feels good. But I only went up and down driveway
