have a 31 rear tire , noticed knobs on sidewall cracking all the way around, also date produced was over 2 years from date of purchase, does this cause tire to harden or lose its flexibility ?

Yea, it very well may be dry rotted, iv also ran Dunlop tires and won't buy them anymore because they wear out super fast, my last mx51 had two rides on it and it looked like it had an entire season on it. Iv owned the 71s too, those wore fast also.iv ran Michelin star cross tires, those didn't wear to horrible but they were not good in anything except dry conditions, to sum this up iv ran a ton of different brands over the years, in my opinion maxxis it tires are the best bang for the buck and hook up in mostly anything. I also live in Pennsylvania if that helps.

I've recently started running the new brigestone x30 battlecross. Man I really like these. Works well on hard pack, loamy dirt and sand. And seem to be holding up very well

The correct tire air pressure and using the correct tire for the track conditions go a long way in getting long tire life.
Be sure those are correct.

Do you like these better than the 404/03 series?

X2, tire pressure is neglected. Dunlops are great tires, wear fast, try pirrelis, scorpions. Great tires

the dunlop 756 was a great tire, everything since then has been very terrain specific and even when you have the right tire for the terrain it still does work as good as 756"s, I had a leftover mx 31 front I used for 2 rides the past fall, all side knobs torn off! I contacted dunlop, they asked me to bring it to a dealer for inspection, which I have not done yet, but still have the tire. I have the new mx 32""s, I have used in the sand, so far holding up well, but usually anything holds up well in sand. so far best tire for me that I can go anywhere with is bstone 403/404"s good solid tires. chk my pressure before & during the day, never store tires in very cold climates.

i have to agree on the 403/404's sandman, Bridgestone makes an excellent tire, they wear far better than all Dunlops and work great everywhere.

I'm not sure what kind of riding you do but the Dunlop MX32's are the best tire I've used. Unbelievable traction with the front tire. This is based on soft/intermediate MX riding. I compared them back to back with brand new bridgestone 404/403 combo and the MX32 were significantly better, IMO. Especially the front. Like everyone else said about chunking, if your tire pressure is off it'll chunk knobs.

In the past, I've had issues with the rear 404 ripping off side knobs.

And currently I have the mx31 front and pretty much every side knob is breaking off. The tire has about 6 rides and looks like new besides the knobs coming off.

I'm trying the mx32 front next...

I had a set of 404's on a yz250 that ripped knobs off almost every ride.

I gotta say the new mx52 wear really really well, I have quite a few hours on my 52 rear and its just starting to become worn down.
